Today we had Denise Goggin show us her first children’s book ‘Dr. Koala’! She read us the story, showed us how to draw the illustrations and we became doctors & wrote prescriptions for our animal patients! We want to be authors now! Book available soon! #earlyreading #kindy

How exciting! Tomorrow we will be having an author in to read us her brand new book! We spent this morning making posters of Australian animals for her, & making predictions about the story... all we know is that it’s called Dr. Koala! More to come soon! #readingintowriting

Today we had our friends from @ReverseGarbage in Marrickville in to teach us about reducing, reusing and recycling! We made these fantastic cars from reclaimed material and we loved testing them on different surfaces! #STEMed #kindy

We listened to the story of Palm Sunday. We explored a real palm frond and tested what it would be like to wave it like one of Jesus’ followers! It was heavier than expected. We made our own palms to wave as we sing our Kindy song at the Holy Week assembly on Thursday! #holyweek

Kindy enjoyed a performance by the school choir this afternoon. We LOVE singing during our daily morning meeting, so we can’t wait to be able to join the choir in term 2! #kindy #schoolchoir

We were excited to discover suggestion boxes outside the Kindy classroom today. We drew or wrote down our suggestions and posted them in the box. We can’t wait for the school captains to read and implement them! #purposefulwriting #schoolspirit #kindy

Fun with #guidedreading today. After reading about what the mouse could do with an ice-cream stick, we thought about what he could do with other small items. We came up with some very creative ideas such as a paper towel sleeping bag and a straw exercise bar! #creativethinking

“Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit!” That’s ‘Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you’ in Irish! We learned about how St. Patrick used a shamrock to teach people about the Holy Trinity. We hope you liked our shamrock hats! We wore them for lunch and were the envy of the school! #StPatricksDay

To finish off our topic, we acted out our story maps using anything we could find! Kindy were very creative, discussing how milk crates could be a house, a tarp the ocean and a cardboard box a boat! We LOVED acting out the dilemma by making waves with the tarp! #creative #kindy

We love to take our learning outside sometimes. It means we can go BIG! We used these giant letters to practise our capital letter recognition and then practised formation with jumbo chalk. #lettersandsounds #letterformation #outdoorlearning #earlyreading #earlywriting

Today we sequenced our versions of #LostandFound by @OliverJeffers. We used giant rolls of paper and textas to draw and label colourful story maps & made sure we labelled the ‘beginning’ , ‘dilemma’ & ‘solution’. Retelling this way helps our comprehension skills. #earlywriting

More problem solving in #maths! We know that numbers can be represented by objects, pictures, numerals or words. We used blocks and counters as ‘stand-ins’ to apply our knowledge to solve problems: Show me fewer than 8 apples! Show me a bigger group of green cars than blue cars!

We are working on one-to-one correspondence in #maths, as well as developing #mathematicalthinking & language. We sorted & grouped objects according to a chosen criteria and explained our thinking using #mathematicallanguage. Then, we labelled our groups with the correct numeral.
