On the subject of butterfly indicators of grassland quality, and marbled whites in particular, we'll shortly be setting off for the simply incredible Montes Universales in Spain, home to Esper's Marbled White amongst others. For sheer abundance, it's like stepping back in time.
Gavarnie Blue, star of the busy puddling action today high in the Hautes-Pyrenees on the tour I’m co-leading there for @Mariposa_Nature.
Seen alongside many Turquoise, Chalkhill, Glandon, Mazarine, Silver-studded & Small Blue, and Brown Argus. Outrageous, joyful views. 🦋
We're delighted this evening to formally confirm that there will be a donation made to the European Butterflies Group branch of @savebutterflies for every one of our butterfly tours that runs. We're proud to support butterfly research and conservation near and further from home.

I enjoy finding an #orchid with a pollinator on board. Today on Profitis Ilias in Rhodes, Anacamptis picta hosting a bee, with the orchid's pollinia firmly stuck to its head.
Suspect many birders don't appreciate how fully Willow Warblers have disappeared from arable habs in the SE. Haven't heard ONE in my Norfolk village since 2017 (and that was 1st for a while). I'm quite attuned to bird song really. Still present a few miles away in the Yare valley
