Barrie Police Service Media Release: Firearm discharged inside Bayfield St. eatery results in arrest

Barrie Police officers made an arrest and seized a firearm following an incident inside a Bayfield Street establishment on June 23, 2026.

Police received a call from a man reporting that while he was with his children at the fast-food restaurant in the city’s north end, they heard a loud ‘pop’ sound followed by a young man apologizing, claiming it was a BB gun.

Police were provided with a description of the individual, who was spotted nearby a short time later and detained.

Through the investigation, officers seized a .22 caliber GSG-16 Carbine, a spent .22 caliber shell casing, a crowbar, box cutters, a flip pocketknife, a small amount of suspected cocaine, several bills in Canadian currency, and scales.

As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old man from Barrie faces several criminal charges:

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
Carrying a concealed weapon
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
Reckless discharge of a firearm
Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
No injuries were reported.

The accused was remanded into custody to await a bail hearing scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2026.
