According to the report, the wife had already told her husband that Otega had been disturbing her. They reportedly planned for her to agree to meet Otega at a hotel, while her husband was nearby, before he confronted him.

2027 elections: US-Based Advocacy Firm Calls On World Bank, Others To Suspend New Loans To Nigeria

A United States-based advocacy firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has called on international financial institutions to suspend new loans to Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The firm made the call in a statement shared on its X handle on October 4, while reacting to reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is seeking billions of dollars in financing from international lenders.

It specifically referenced Nigeria’s reported requests for funding from the World Bank, European Investment Bank (EIB) and France’s Agence Française de Développement (AFD), arguing that the loans are being sought only months before the 2027 general election.

“The Nigerian presidential election is a few months away, and, on cue, Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu is seeking billions of dollars from the WorldBank and, not surprisingly, from the European Investment Bank and France’s Agence Française de Développement ,” the firm stated.

The advocacy group alleged that borrowed funds could be mismanaged and expressed concern that ordinary Nigerians could bear the burden while politicians benefit.

“Nigeria takes on loans, funds disappear, politicians buy houses in the U.S. and EU, while ordinary Nigerians struggle to feed their families,” it said.

The firm added that it would reach out to the World Bank, noting that the United States is a stakeholder in the institution.

“Given Nigeria’s history of corruption, loans should be paused until Nigerians elect their next leaders,” the firm stated.
