@Tryphonakis One of the first Orthodox Churches in the state of Washington. Originally built to serve mostly Serbian and Russian immigrants in the interior of state. Some of the icons were donated by Tsar Nicholas II
Greek politicians sell patriotism and orthodoxy to their voters, taking every photoshoot possible in front of a church. But when it comes down to it they are indistinguishable from the Left.
Totally embarrassing and sad.
@DSalpingid69 I don’t even disagree, there is certainly a lot of work to be done regarding Greek diaspora perception of Greece etc. it is like a question of chicken vs. egg. I believe that it’s easier to reform the state and use it as a means to correct the community abroad.
@chunguskitten This totally denies the historic presence of Greeks throughout the Levant. The forced Arabization by the Turks, Muslims, and even Russians has been transformative for self identification. Rum and ethnic Greeks used to cover the entire Eastern Med
Türkiye will use the term "Eastern Roman Empire" instead of "Byzantium" in schools and historical sites... This will ensure that students and tourists learn history correctly.
I just arrived in Limassol and it’s kind of blackpilling. Pretty much everyone is some type of foreigner, whether Russian or Arab or Pakistani. Very few people speak Greek. In general it’s kind of a dystopian mashup of extreme wealth coupled with the replacement of Greeks.
Communists love protesting workers day, but will never say a word about the replacement of Hellenic laborers with foreign scabs from the third world.
Who actually represents the Greek working class?
They tried this in Australia, universities became citizenship centers. Now the foreign student population is a significant portion of all students and makes up a dramatic percentage of immigrants into Australia.
People may not want to admit it, but this is one of the consequences of tourism. Pricing is based mostly on the discretionary spending of tourists and not locals.
This also coincides with a broader cost of living crisis.
