But in a quick turn, the coach asked Kinsley if he wanted to be a member of the Colby Men’s basketball team. Kinsley graciously accepted.
From a pickup game to a college basketball player. This is why we follow the one and only Johnny Kinsley.
The Colby coach wanted to sit down with Kinsley and tell him what his future was with the team. In a monotonous tone, he told Kinsley how they appreciated him putting lots of time and effort over the course of the past few weeks. Kinsley expected to be dismissed from the team.
NEW: Johnny Kinsley will be playing in the Scituate Country Club Father-Son tournament this Saturday October 14th. Another opportunity for him to attack Al the course especially after gaining more skill at Colby so far. More to come soon.
After a funky front nine featuring plenty of topped and chunked balls, Kinsley found his rhythm on the back nine and had a lot of “boring” two-putt pars throughout. What a terrible time he must’ve had en route to 72.
Showing up right before his tee time with little time to spare? Sounds like an average golf day for Kinsley. His peers back home in Scituate have seen plenty of times when Kinsley has shown up 2-3 minutes prior to tee times and tear up a course. “He usually plays better” - Sam B.
More heroic reports from Kinsley’s win last weekend. The Colby College golf team showed up 20 min before Kinsley’s tee time on Saturday. Kinsley went right through the range and hit 8 balls. Shanked 3 of them, and hopped right on the tee.
Finding 12/18 Greens In Regulation would’ve been a recipe for mediocrity for any other golfer today. Kinsley’s scrambling and putting abilities we’re on display today. One up-and-down after another. True poise from the sophomore.
The reason behind this decision? During his spring break this past week, JK was in Florida playing golf with his father and was striking it really well. Accurate, controlled, and solid. More updates will come on this closer to the Colby men’s golf season beginning.
An interview with Kinsley reveals that he may put his 3 iron back in the bag for the upcoming golf season. A club that is key for him when he needs to get a tee shot in play. After hitting it poorly late last season, he had replaced his 3 iron with his hybrid.
An update on Johnny Kinsley’s last few months:
- Traveled to Spain for first semester at Colby; a “great time” according to JK
- Spent winter term at Colby during January
- First semester well underway, golf season coming soon at Colby
- He is single (forgot to update earlier)
With SCC potentially adding more staff members to the pro shop this summer, there is potential for leeway and a more flexible schedule for Kinsley. Thus creating the chance for other work.
Additionally, on the Johnny Kinsley side of things, JK is committed to SCC for the season, however is dabbling with the idea of change. Kinsley’s agent denied sharing details, however we have heard that a larger contract and other opportunities are in Kinsley’s interests.
