These two are genuinely good cars that serve two different buyers. And the answer actually depends entirely on who is asking.

The CX-5 is definitely the better car to drive. Its steering has real feedback. The interior feels more premium than its price tag. Its reliability is remarkable (The Petrol in this case).

For a town daily driver who spends most of their time on tarmac and wants something that feels fun behind the wheel, the CX-5 wins for me.

The Forester, for some people, is the better car for our country's full reality. It has slightly more ground clearance and more cargo space. AWD as a standard on all trims. It also has a strong, mild Off-road record here.

If you drive mostly in town on well-maintained roads, the CX-5 is the honest answer. If your life includes anything beyond that, the Forester earns its place...
