I will write more fully on this shortly - but this is a breathtaking abdication of responsibility by the UK’s medical regulator.
This is mass medical deregulation - the @gmcuk literally saying PAs can do whatever they want if their local employer says they can. An NHS scandal.
The argument that “we need PAs due to a GP shortage” is a lie.
The “NHS GP shortage” is deliberate & entirely manufactured
15036 doctors applied for 4096 GP training posts
**10,940 doctors** were unsuccessful
We have the doctors! NHSE are ensuring there are NO jobs for them!
It’s amazing that the first woman to be awarded FRCS was only in 1911 and only 16.3% of surgeons are women in 2023! The sexual misconduct in surgery report shows surgery still has a way to go @RCSnews@NHSBartsHealth@scarlettmcnally @DhanupriyaSiva @BHWomen_network
I will never understand how a c section is not treated in the same manner as any other major abdominal surgery.
The expectation that women should be able to care for a newborn, get up and deal with it, with a bit of paracetamol onboard.
When I was in medical school, I was told I didn’t have the dedication to succeed as a surgeon. I took that personally. I have used it to fuel a deep commitment to make real, lasting change. I am dedicated to improving the workplace for the surgeon who operates on our loved ones—ensuring that both current and future generations of surgeons are supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Today, I am deeply honored to have been nominated to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Throughout my career, I’ve fought for better surgical training and working conditions, and now, I look forward to the opportunity to represent surgeons from all backgrounds. As a father of four, I know what it means to balance a demanding career with family life, and I will bring that perspective to this role.
Thank you for this incredible opportunity. Together, we can make a meaningful difference—for our members, our profession, and the future of surgery.
So yesterday far right racist rioters in Sunderland threw rocks & missiles at Filipino NHS nurses on their way to provide emergency cover at the hospital.
Your silence is deafening @Nigel_Farage & your band of inciters of racist hate.
Shame on you.

Far-right violence hasn’t come out of nowhere.
It is the result of anti-migrant rhetoric from mainstream politicians who scapegoat refugees.
We are an anti-racist movement that believes in a more inclusive world. We defeated the far right before. We will defeat them again.
🧵 Tips for Core Surgical Training 🧵
As promised heres my list of key tips for success with CST.
An important disclaimer, these are my views. It is by no means a guarantee or what the bosses expect. It’s simply my observations of what helped me.
“No matter how technically competent or senior you are, if you abuse your position as a surgeon, you will have no place in our College.”
Today we introduce our new Code of Conduct. A crucial step in our journey to eradicate sexual misconduct.

"More people die within 30 days of surgery annually than from all causes related to HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis combined."
The central tenant of an operation or a whole surgical system should be safe surgery. Surgery is a risky process and dying after it is a disaster for everyone. In an ideal world, the death rate within 30 days of an operation would be zero. Work to do.
London nursing staff rightly receive at least £5.5k in London weighting, while their doctor colleagues receive less than £2k, yet they face exactly the same costs of working in London - how is this fair?
@KHilli0 UKFPO will have know well in advance how many people would be expected to graduate this year and should have planned for this well in advance- it’s a shame no one has been held accountable for this.
REPEATEDLY told I COULDN’T be a surgeon 🔪⚒️🚫
🚫 I couldn’t do orthopaedics a woman
🚫 I couldn’t do it with a young family
🚫 I couldn’t train ‘part’ time
19 YEARS since starting medical school
I did it all.
My way.

No need to guess who I voted for 😉
The energy in Bristol today is electric! On the short walk to the polling station, I met 8 Green volunteers and heard 'well done' and 'I voted for you' from voters 💚
Thank you, everyone, and remember to bring ID to vote!
