This really stinks of Amorim, Tuchel saying players do not have the right DNA, just to tickle his own ego, he left out players that fit that profle aswell, but was worried he could not manage them, never understood the hype around him.
Under-fire Thomas Tuchel criticises the DNA of England's players after World Cup exit - as Three Lions boss claims 'no structure in the world could have helped us' against Argentina https://t.co/uzgzLqjHx8
Remember when Mainoo was running England’s midfield under Southgate? ESPN summed it up perfectly: “The Earth is covered by 30% water, the rest is covered by Kobbie Mainoo.”
Tuchel naturally leans towards midfielders like Rice and Anderson because they bring relentless energy, intensity and box-to-box running, which suits many high-tempo games. But football isn’t one-dimensional.
There are matches where control matters more than chaos, where the ability to dictate tempo, receive under pressure, and keep possession is more valuable than simply covering distance. That’s where Mainoo stands out.
Mainoo’s greatest strength isn’t endless running; it’s making the game look slower than everyone else sees it. Every top squad needs profiles like that just as much as it needs runners. He deserves some minutes.
Knowing how good Kobbie Mainoo is at playing in tight spaces and progressing the ball up the pitch, it feels a total waste he didn’t feature for a single minute in this campaign when England only played well in fleeting moments. The Mexico win was fabulously defiant but overall I didn’t see the improvement in game management Thomas Tuchel was brought in for.
12% possession between Gordon’s opener and Martínez’ winner.
If only there was a player on the bench who never loses the ball in tight spaces, defends brilliantly in a low block and acts like a pressure valve for his team when their backs are up against a wall.
Wayne Rooney talking a lot of sense. When you are winning, keep your foot on the pedal. Don’t sit back against one of the best players ever whose greatest strength in control and balance around a penalty area. Inevitable outcome.
Maguire was left out the squad for these two clowns at CB, Anderson has been the worse player on the pitch and not a £130m player. England could have done with Wan Bissaka at right back
🤷♂️ | Harry Maguire, one of England’s most consistent big game players, is sat on his couch with a bag of crisps whilst DR Congo cause Ezri Konsa and Marc Guéhi nightmares. Absolutely baffling.
