There was an interesting book by Orson Scott Card called "The Redemption of Christopher Columbus" - future people go back in time to right the wrongs of colonialism in South America. While there, they discover that someone had already gone back in time to right the wrong of the Aztec colonization of the whole world, spreading violent human sacrifice everywhere.
