Some people spend their entire lives seeking without ever realizing they are seekers. They endlessly read books about spirituality and spiritual figures. They chase things like past lives, out-of-body experiences, initiations, visions, and altered states of consciousness. Then, when they need a break from spirituality, they seek in other ways - concerts, parties, social events, travel, anything that might fill the empty space or keep boredom away for another few hours. The object changes, but the movement is always the same. Away from here. Away from now. Away from themselves.
Eventually, if you’re fortunate, you begin to notice this pattern in yourself. You realize you’ve spent your entire life leaning forward….waiting for the next book, the next experience, the next revelation, the next thing that will finally make you feel complete. When that happens, you stop. Not because you’ve found what you were looking for….but because you finally understand that the seeking was the very thing preventing you from seeing it. There was never a hole to fill. There was only a life you were too busy searching for to actually live.
