For the most part, I have never publicly canvassed for a political party/candidate. This time, I will, for @RW_SRILANKA
I’m not a government servant. I’m a lawyer who happens to be a private practitioner. I get no government rebates. I have no state-sponsored benefits. Everything from my meals, to my healthcare policy to my vacations are paid by me. I also pay my taxes.
I have no intention of migrating, I like what I do. Being a Counsel (a courtroom lawyer, in other words) is something I take pride in. For the foreseeable future, I’ll be here.
I need this country’s economy to be stable. I lived in SL through the crisis - it took a toll on many things, mostly on my savings. The general public won’t litigate if they can’t eat, simply put. In more than one ways, I’m a glorified daily wage earner. For the daily wage earners, economic stability trumps political stability, at least in the interim.
I have an acceptable knowledge on economics and I’ve been fortunate enough to learn more, especially from people who are better placed. I understand that things can get much worse than what it was in 2022, should certain actions are not taken and if certain actions are taken.
It has unfortunately boiled down to a scenario where none of the candidates are great, but we must pick the lesser of the evils. I believe that to be incumbent. I believe the risks to economic stability is higher from the other candidates. That is not a risk I’m willing to take.
Democracy isn’t perfect. We always elect the candidate we deserve, though in hindsight most of us claim otherwise.
