Pleased to join my former professor Laurie Goldman in this @TuftsDaily piece about rampant housing unaffordability. Always happy to talk about our work w/zoning and hype up the incredible redevelopment work being done by the Medford Housing Authority. https://t.co/izGCgA6y0H
It's appalling that @MassGovernor would choose to advance impossible/unrealistic conditions for gaining shelter, rather than mobilize all available resources to keep vulnerable families safe and off the streets. The new state EA and overflow family shelter rules must be reversed.
Stay safe out there, everybody! Cooling centers open this week:
Medford Police Department Community Room (100 Main St.) - July 15-17: open 24 hours
Medford Senior Center (101 Riverside Ave.) - July 15-17: 9am-4pm
Medford Public Library (111 High St.) – July 15-17: 9am-9pm
Happy July! Today, the GLX zoned parking pilot begins. Reminder: If you live on one of the affected streets, Your residential permit is now good for the whole GLX zone. Visitor passes, however, are good for only the street listed on them. Full rules here: https://t.co/fUZzIB78X8
Her genuine love for our city shines through in her years of tireless service, advocacy, and community organizing. Now more than ever, we need Nichole's values and convictions supporting Medford in the State House. (2/2)
Caption: Nichole is the candidate in this race who is unapologetically supportive of taking necessary measures for affordable housing so that people from all backgrounds can put down roots and live in dignity in our community. (1/2)
For those keeping tabs on the Medford City Council, April meeting recaps have been added to the informal archive on my website! https://t.co/4gDvjhg282
A joy to join so many friends and allies yesterday (even in the rain!) to rally for dignified wages and rent control. Labor, housing justice, climate justice, and neighborhoods coming together for raising the minimum wage and keeping people in their homes! #mapoli#RentControlMA
Tonight at 6pm - @MassDOT hosts a webinar on proposed improvements to 3 notorious intersections: Main St x South St, Main St x Mystic Valley Parkway ramp, and Main x Mystic Ave. Long-awaited and consequential stuff indeed! Details and registration link: https://t.co/UC7PqgIdJG
Spin cycle is working overtime to breathlessly portray overwhelmingly peaceful protests as radical, violent and unreasonable. The students involved & the movement behind them will never forget how the liberal and Democratic establishment is treating them.
“Violent protest is not protected; peaceful protest is. ... Vandalism, trespassing, breaking windows, shutting down campuses, forcing the cancellation of classes ... none of this is peaceful protest.”
— President Biden condemns many campus demonstrations.
Thank you, Amherst, Cambridge, and Medford councilors for being the latest communities to pass resolutions supporting H2963/S1836. Local option revenue from wealthy non-profits makes sense.
If Dems want to win in November, they must correct course now. Stop pandering to Trump voters, stop shamelessly coopting and weaponizing Jews' intergenerational trauma, halt all arms shipments to Israel, and keep cancelling student debt.
As an alum, I'm proud of the students that are taking part in this cascade of historic demonstrations. A forcible clearing of the quad would be imprudent, put students and allies in danger, and put @TuftsUniversity on the wrong side of history.
Hearing reports from @TuftsUniversity that the administration is considering forcibly clearing the Palestine solidarity encampment as soon as this evening. I will unequivocally condemn any attempts to forcibly clear out this peaceful demonstration or to arrest student protesters.
I've made my stance clear to the administration: this is an extenuating event that calls for flexibility and creativity. Negotiate. Accommodate. Don't call the cops.
Police sweeps and academic sanctions against peaceful student protesters should chill us at least as much as the attempted insurrection on Jan 6.
The media should be covering and condemning these actions with just as much energy and persistence as they did with Jan 6.
