I joined H.E. President William Ruto, Head of Public Service, Colleague PS’s, Clergy, senior officials from National and County Governments, at Mnangoni Primary School, Bamba, Ganze Constituency, Kilifi County, during the thanksgiving ceremony of PS Fikirini Jacobs and his family. The occasion brought together the community in a spirit of gratitude, unity and reflection, marking an important moment of thanksgiving and togetherness.
It was inspiring to witness the strong bond between leaders and wananchi as HE the President reaffirmed his commitment to support the Government’s development agenda and work together towards building a better future for the country.
I am grateful for the warm reception accorded to us in Bamba and for the opportunity to engage with residents as we continue empowering communities through skills, education and sustainable development.
KSTVET was yesterday Formally accepted as a UNESCO-UNEVOC Network member. This a prestigious position in the TVET world .congratulations @kstvet@Muoria_Dr@HonJuliusMigos@StateHouseKenya for this achievement.
This morning, I had the honour of hosting the Governor of Samburu County, Hon. Lati Lelelit, the Chair of the Laikipia University Council, Dr. Lemein Korei and the Vice-Chancellor of Laikipia University, Prof. Kibett Rotich at the Ministry’s Jogoo House B Offices.
Among other issues, the meeting discussed the implementation of the directive by His Excellency the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, on the establishment of a university in Samburu County.
The Government is committed to expanding access to higher education through multiple strategies, including the establishment of universities across the country, in addition to ensuring that university programmes remain affordable and that students are equitably funded.
Labour mobility is increasingly becoming a strategic pillar in positioning Kenyan youth for global opportunities and language proficiency is now an essential component of competitiveness in the international labour market.
This afternoon, I officially launched the German Language TVET Trainers Capacity Building and Examiner Qualification Programme at Kabete National Polytechnic alongside trainers, principals and partners. The programme marks an important step in strengthening trainer capacity, assessment credibility and international certification pathways within Technical, Vocational Education and Training.
During the engagement, I emphasized that TVET institutions must train for outcomes, not outputs. The true measure of training is not the number of graduates produced, but the competence, practical skills and workplace readiness that enable them to be absorbed by both local and global industry.
I also shared insights from this morning’s Africa Forward Summit, where H.E. President William Ruto underscored the urgency of creating employment opportunities for young people as part of Kenya’s economic transformation agenda. With Germany having allocated approximately 50,000 employment opportunities to Kenya, language training must now be deliberately integrated into TVET as a strategic enabler of global employability.
I commend inLEGAS Limited Company and Kabete National Polytechnic for their collaboration and commitment towards advancing foreign language training within the TVET sector. Partnerships of this nature are critical in aligning skills development with emerging global labour market opportunities.
Earlier today, I toured the University of Nairobi to assess preparations for the Africa-Forward Summit Business Forum, which is scheduled to be hosted at the institution tomorrow.
The Business Forum will be officially opened by His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto @WilliamsRuto and his French counterpart, His Excellency President Emmanuel Macron @EmmanuelMacron.
Kenya is the first non-Francophone country to host the Africa-Forward Summit, which seeks to deepen cooperation between France and African countries across sectors such as trade, education, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.
Addressing stakeholders during the High-Level Public–Private Dialogue on Skills, Jobs and Competitiveness in Kenya’s Coast Region, organized by GIZ, I reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to positioning TVET as a direct pathway to jobs, enterprise and national competitiveness.
The dialogue examined how TVET is progressively connecting young people to real work opportunities in the blue economy, tourism, logistics, manufacturing and agribusiness sectors. I noted that progress under Competency-Based Education and Training has strengthened practical training, improved industry relevance and created a more flexible curriculum that can be developed, reviewed and updated in line with labour market demands.
I emphasized that training must be measured by outcomes: employment, enterprise, productivity and production. Through Competency-Based Education and Training and the Dual TVET model, the sector is strengthening work-based training, industry participation and practical competence.
I commend GIZ for convening this important dialogue and for demonstrating tangible development partner collaboration that supports skills development, youth employability and stronger industry linkages. I also appreciated industry for the collaborations so far and called for deeper partnerships with TVET institutions through curriculum support, workplace placement, mentorship, co-training and productive use of modern training equipment.
The outcome must be clear: skilled youth connected to jobs, enterprises and opportunities that strengthen livelihoods and expand pathways to decent work.
