The Phaneroo people landed on my Tweet castigating the other lady who claimed their pastor healed an HIV/AIDS patient and now my mentions are blowing up with Bible verses.

People need to appreciate that there is a fundamental risk of tweeting such stuff. In the 90s when the HIV/AIDS scourge was ravaging the population, one of the problems Ministry of Health fought against was Pastors & traditional healers who constantly claimed they cured the disease.

Many people lost their lives because they believed they’d been cured by their pastors and therefore they went off medication. To this day, we lose people simply because they replace taking meds with prayer and fasting.

It’s very dangerous to create the impression that your pastor cured a patient because what you’re communicating to other patients is that they don’t need to take medication, they just need to locate your pastor.

Therein lies the problem.

If you’re an HIV/AIDS patient, it’s okay to have your pastor lay hands on you but please, do not under any circumstances stop taking medication.

As of now, there is no known cure for HIV/AIDS. However, the virus can be fully managed through medication, lifestyle change & discipline. Short of that, you’re at risk of the disease spreading through the body & wiping out immunity hence leading to death.

Phaneroo people & their pastor are going to undo decades of hardwork put in by many people to teach the population about how to manage HIV/AIDS.

Believe in your God, worship him, hold hands and sing Kumbaya, but please do not spread falsehoods about HIV/AIDs. It is still a dangerous disease & must be treated as such.

Whoever is misleading our President, H.E. @KagutaMuseveni, into believing that medical interns are merely students is doing a great disservice to Uganda.

Similarly, the narrative that medical interns are not reporting yet because they support NUP, FDC, or any other political party is completely misleading and should be rejected.

The reality is simple ;

1. Medical interns are Junior House Officers. They are qualified doctors undergoing supervised clinical practice, not undergraduate students. They have completed medical school and are serving in hospitals under supervision as they complete their internship.

2. This struggle is not political. We are medical professionals advocating for issues that directly affect our training, welfare, and the future of Uganda's health system. We do not belong to any political party as a group.

We recognise and respect H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the President of the Republic of Uganda. Our appeal is simply that the concerns of medical interns and other health professionals are presented to him accurately and honestly.

As Cabinet is expected to discuss the internship matter this week, let the discussion be based on facts, not misinformation or political labels.

This is about doctors, the health system, and ultimately the people of Uganda.

🇺🇬 YOUTH DELEGATE QUESTIONS EXCLUSION OF PRIVATELY SPONSORED MEDICAL INTERNS

Frank Ocero, representing the youth of Lira, has urged Government to review its decision to pay only formerly government-sponsored medical interns.

He questioned the rationale for excluding privately sponsored interns, arguing that government sponsorship ends upon completion of studies and noting that some privately sponsored graduates are beneficiaries of the Higher Education Students' Loan Scheme.

He called on Government to reconsider the policy to ensure equitable treatment of all qualifying medical interns.

To the parents of Medical Interns,
You're convincing your sons and daughters to report: your fear is understood.
You have invested everything. Years of fees. Borrowed money. Skipped meals. Sold land. You cannot watch that investment collapse over a standoff with the government.

But in trying to protect your investment, you are delivering your child into the very conditions that will break them.
The government that threatens to cancel this cohort if they don't report is not protecting your child.
They are using your fear as the negotiation tool they couldn't find elsewhere.

These are not policymakers acting in good faith.
They are people who discovered that parental desperation is cheaper than an allowance.
Modern day slave traders do not come with chains.
They come with deployment letters, threats of cancellation, and parents too afraid to say no on behalf of their children.
