To Me, KEDC GRANTS IS the best way for teachers to bring real, usable strategies, techniques and content knowledge to the classroom to have major positive impacts on students. @KEDCGrants@kedc_epic
@MarkJWestpfahl Two weeks ago we sent out 5th grader to school when she felt like complete crap (but no fever) because neither me or my wife had a sub pick up our absence. Horrible parenting but I just hate putting so many people through having to cover (in addition to sub plans, etc.).
Had such a fun time today hearing students present their Revolutionary Era song parodies (a la Mr. Betts). They did an amazing job! @SocStudiesFCPS@AspireKy
Are your high school kids acting like middle schoolers? Middle schoolers acting like elementary kids? If so you’re not alone. Socially & academically many students are 1.5 yrs behind where they “should” be. It’s not your fault. Don’t give up. This year is a marathon not a sprint.
Today I “found” a note students had passed in class. Turned out to be a breakup note…kinda like what Jefferson wrote in 1776. Hmmmm….(Kids went crazy reading it!) @SocStudiesFCPS@AspireKy
Today our students turned into detectives trying to crack the case of what really happened at the Boston Massacre. Inquiry + Hands On = Great Engagement @SocStudiesFCPS@AspireKy
One of my favorite lessons - Kings M&Ms (or in COVID times, Tootsie Rolls). Students were assessed taxes representing British taxes on colonies & had to pay candy tax. They didn’t like having their candy taken away…know they know what April 15 is like! @SocStudiesFCPS@AspireKy
@oliviakrauth Not to mention if you teach a grade that is only tested every few years (like social studies in 8th grade), teachers don't know if missed questions were from 6th, 7th or 8th grade content. Can't fix a hole if you can't identify the leak.
@SocStudiesFCPS EJ Hayes 8th grade social studies students were presented a plaque from Mayor Gorton declaring this Constitution Week in Lexington. Each student at the presentation received a pocket Constitution courtesy of Daughters of the American Revolution. @AspireKy
