Lot of fantasy media has "they hate me cause I'm a witch but I'm a good person" trope without understanding why witches were feared. It's not the magic itself, it's how you get magic. Fantasy depicts it as a semiscience, but irl magic is derived from deals with other beings.

This is why the sims 4 did well. My sister literally asked me what laptop to get for work so she could play it.

TLDR: appealing to a specific audience brings out that audience.
