Such sad, sad news about the passing of Alistair Darling.
He was so solid and decent and honourable. Working with him through Better Together was one of the most professionally rewarding periods of my life.
He gave no small amount of service to this country.
Incredibly sad news about Alistair Darling. One of the kindest, most dedicated, steadiest people, deeply serious, driven by public service & Labour values, & that wonderful dry sense of humour
In unprecedented financial crisis when so much at risk, his calm judgement was vital/1
Alistair Darling led this country through extraordinarily difficult economic times and was a political giant respected across parties. Scotland is proud to call him a son. Sending so much love to his family who have lost him too soon.
I am beyond saddened to learn of the passing of Alistair Darling, a colleague, a friend and a role model of decency & dedicated public service.
My heart goes out to Maggie, Calum & Ann.
Scotland has lost one of its finest sons.
So so sad to hear Alistair Darling has died. A lovely man who always put others before himself. A team player. He did a succession of Cabinet jobs from start to finish of the New Labour era and did every one of them well. Last time I saw him not that long ago he seemed fit and1/2
I am deeply saddened by the death of Alistair Darling. I, like many relied on his wisdom, calmness in a crisis and his humour. I send my deepest condolences to his loving wife Maggie and their children Calum and Anna. He will be missed by all who knew him.
I’m sadder than words can say. Alistair Darling was a great man, but never expected to be treated as one. A man who always felt the weight of the huge decisions that public service involves, but was still able to take them - even in the darkest of economic times

Within about five minutes of exploring temperate rainforests on the Ardtornish Estate yesterday I was astonished to find Yellow Speckled-Belly lichen (Pseudocyphellaria citrina) - an incredibly rare lichen found in only one site in England, but clearly more common in Scotland!:)
Leaders have committed to deliver an ambitious #post2020 global biodiversity framework. Now is the time to do so.
