Ever heard of Neodymium? Without it, neither our phones nor our wind turbines would work. It's so essential, that it even almost started a trade war. Enjoy a chemistry class with DW's @KiyoDoerrer in the latest edition of #PlanetA:

Right in the heart of Germany, the village of Lützerath is about to be destroyed for coal – even though the country has vowed to turn its back on the fuel as soon as possible. But the villagers and activists are fighting back, reports @KiyoDoerrer@dwnews https://t.co/6u0MPO8yFp
Happy to announce that my video on Lützerath, a German village recently torn down for coal, made it into the final round for the @CoveringClimate awards! https://t.co/oSx7lPzp8W
Another milestone. In May, wind and solar produced more electricity in the EU than fossil fuels – for the first time. 'Europe’s electricity transition has hit hyperdrive. Clean power keeps smashing record after record.'

Almost three quarters of all energy produced in Germany was renewable yesterday, an all-time high! Two thirds over the entirety of May. Nicely visualized as always by @zeitonline
This ad was the first thing I I saw when I stepped on Finnish soil. As a German, this would be so unthinkable back home. Here to visit the only permanent storage facility for nuclear waste in the world.
Germany just exited nuclear power, while other countries like France, USA and even Japan are building new plants. So was the step a mistake? Find out more in my latest video on Planet A: https://t.co/DNAMeF5tUr
Happy #InternationalWomensDay from the Berlin. 1 in 3 women have experienced sexual or physical violence globally. Women all over the world still earn 20 percent less on average than men. (Stats only say women sadly, not FLINTA.) With all due respect, fuck the patriarchy.
3) Activsts say mining under Lützerath would derail any plans to stick to the 1,5 degree goal. 4) The regional government and the energy company RWE say it's necessary for energy security, other studies disagree.
Why care about #Lützerath? 1) It's a village that sits on on about 100M t of brown coal, burning it would be equivalent to the CO2 that 20 million cars emit/year. 2) It's probably going to be one of the biggest clashes between police and climate activists Germany has ever seen.
@BenItoTen80@frankvdlinde Evicted means forcing someone to leave somewhere, which is happening right now in Lützerath. Also not really the most constructive thing to slug insults at each other under an info tweet. Cheers.
Yesterday, clashes between police and activists escalated in #Lützerath, a village about to be evicted for coal. According to activists, a long line of police cars are now making their way through the mine to surround the village.
