PMGC Showed Indian TOs How to Moderate
PMGC 2025 did what Indian tournament organizers call impossible: millions of viewers, a huge Indian fanbase, and a civil broadcast chat.
Tencent expected the surge, two Indian teams, passionate fans, banter ready to explode, and used moderation that actually worked. The bar was never too high; it was just unprofitable for local TOs chasing engagement.
Indian esports has normalized toxicity as the price of passion. Local TOs have allowed, sometimes encouraged, hostile chat under the logic that conflict drives numbers. During India Cup for Call of Duty Mobile years ago, streams descended into open warfare as S8UL and GodLike fanbases clashed while moderators stood aside. The pattern repeats across tournaments and titles.
Controlling chat kills viewership, algorithms punish moderation, brands want raw numbers. What that ignores is long-term cost. Players face harassment that bleeds into DMs. Casual viewers encounter streams hostile by default. Women routinely cite toxic chat as why they avoid live esports entirely.
Indian esports claims it deserves global respect. That ambition rings hollow when its own broadcasts tolerate behaviour no international event permits.

We are qualified to represent India at the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025 in Katowice, Poland (Nov 7–9), but 4 of our players still don’t have Poland visas due to no appointment availability at the consulate.
We’ve trained all year, won the India qualifiers, and proudly secured 2nd place at the 2023 World Championship in Atlanta. This is our dream and our nation’s pride. 🇮🇳
We are now at high risk of missing the entire tournament, and this is truly our last hope. 🙏
We urgently request help from @PLinIndia@PolandMFA@MEAIndia@DrSJaishankar@IndiainPoland @konsullndii @mansukhmandviya to provide an emergency appointment and fast track our visas so we can fly by Nov 4/5.
This is one of the biggest esports tournaments globally. Please help us make it to Poland and represent India on the world stage.
