In January 2023, Yayoi Kusama transformed Louis Vuitton’s Fifth Avenue flagship into one of New York City’s most unforgettable works of public art. A remarkably lifelike animatronic version of the artist appeared to paint her signature multicolored dots across the store’s windows, while a monumental image of Kusama covered the building’s façade, all celebrating her second collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

Today, we remember the visionary Japanese artist who made dots, mirrors and repetition feel infinite. Kusama passed away in Tokyo on August 14 at the age of 97, continuing to paint until her final days.
