I must confess to being a bit emotional this morning at the news of a knighthood for Kevin Sinfield.

I’ve always called him ‘Sir Kev’ and it’s hard to think of a man more deserving. He showed us all what it is to be a friend. What it means to step up when people need you and he did it all for his mate ❤️

After he carried Rob across the line in the Leeds marathon someone sent me this poem anonymously and I kept it on my phone. They called it ‘Arise Sir Kev’…

When shadows gathered, and hearts would break
Kev knew it was time to take…
One step, another, through wind and rain,
Carrying hope, despite the pain.

He never stopped, mile after mile,
Driven by loyalty, strength… a smile.
For Rob, his friend, he aim was true
Showing us all, what friendship can do.

Not measured in trophies, applause, or fame…
But turning up, again and again.
And in every mile he chose to run,
He showed us how friendship is truly done.

Je l’ai trouvé un matin pluvieux, abandonné près d’une station-service au bord de l’autoroute. Il était trempé, grelottant, et miaulait désespérément, comme s’il appelait à l’aide. J’ai garé mon camion et je me suis approché doucement, sans vouloir lui faire peur. Lorsqu’il m’a vu, il n’a pas fui. Au contraire, il m’a regardé avec des yeux pleins de détresse et d’espoir. À cet instant, j’ai su que je ne pouvais pas le laisser là.
Je l’ai pris dans mes bras et je l’ai installé sur le siège passager, en l’enveloppant dans une couverture que je gardais dans la cabine. Pendant le trajet, il a cessé de miauler et s’est mis à somnoler, comme s’il comprenait qu’il était enfin en sécurité. J’ai décidé de l’appeler « Captain », un nom approprié, car il semblait prêt à diriger chaque nouvelle aventure.
Depuis ce jour, Captain est devenu mon fidèle compagnon de route. Chaque matin, il grimpe sur le tableau de bord, son endroit préféré, où il observe le monde défiler. Parfois, il s’accroche au volant avec ses petites pattes, faisant semblant de conduire. Cela me fait toujours rire, et les gens qui passent près de nous ne peuvent s’empêcher de sourire ou de prendre des photos.
Mais Captain est plus qu’un simple chat amusant. Il est devenu une partie essentielle de ma vie sur la route. Grâce à lui, mes journées solitaires sont désormais remplies de rires, de surprises et de réconfort. Il m’a appris que même les rencontres les plus inattendues peuvent changer nos vies en profondeur. Et chaque jour, il me rappelle que parfois, les gestes les plus simples de gentillesse — comme aider une créature dans le besoin — peuvent avoir le plus grand impact.
