#lesson13 I would spread awareness of the code that comes with digital technologies to my students by making them interact with one another, and explaining to them that observation of online activity is subtly shaped by the digital code that constructs & presents info.
@AmandaDuguay2 I wish I had the time to.. with this semester being online & so many classes, a crazy workload, I'll only be able to relax when this semester craze is over with..
Do you guys feel like with the rise of social media and tiki's Tok, you are more dependant on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Tik Tok?
Personally I think Facebook is for parents now, twitter is boring, instagram is addictive, and tiki's Tok is even more addictive..
@jnagalingam21 I feel like we can't really compare the two.. Disney revokes childhood memories, and an environment of "innocence" and magic, whereas Netflix Is more about a variety of genres, movies, series.. the two are actually incomparable
@IfrahaMahmood@IfrahaMahmood yes I agree, this semester reshaped our entire studying method. As someone who is very old-school & never took an online class before this semester, it was definitely hard. Brutal even, I'd say. But just like with social media, we must adapt to all situations.
What lesson was your favourite one out of this class? Mine was definitely the Disney one, because it combined childhood experiences of watching movies, social media & the influence of both those platforms on our psyche.
@AtabakBaghi @AtabakBaghi I definitely think that Twitter was the right platform for this type of course because it allows us to be like a community (tweet, re-tweet, social by answering to tweets, etc.)
@AtabakBaghi @AtabakBaghi that integrating social media in education is crucial, because it brings to light many new, evolutionary ways in which social media can help learn/educate our youth, and also that whether we like it or not, social media is here to stay, so we better adapt to it
I don't think that we need to necessarily only blame Disney for reinforcing the way "women" should look like, because Disney was created when there was already a beauty standard. But I do think that they are making up for it by adding more ethnicities, body types (Moana)
@AtabakBaghi @AtabakBaghi yes absolutely.. the thin waist, hourglass-shaped figure, long eyelashes, big lips.. But I also want to point out that it's not only Disney that is guilty of that, Disney was created when that was the beauty standard.. I feel like Disney is being more inclusive now.
#Lesson11 example: how fast the news about the coronavirus and its cases spread around the world. Thanks to that global connection, we were able to educate people about what to do/what not to do in these situations. Or the millions of dollars raised for charity/help (3/3)
#Lesson11 However if it's good info that's being spread, such as help that's needed in order to achieve a specific goal (helping children in need/donating/informing of a certain global situation) then the consequences of how fast we will achieve this goal is incredible (2/3)
#Lesson11 I think that when we're connected globally, we can do SO much to change the world as we know it.. information gets spread like never before, and the consequences can be both good and bad. If propaganda is spread (which is often the case) consequences will be bad (1/3)
these examples of cultural appropriation, racism, sexism, and ideals of femininity and dynamic in relationships shook me to the core. Especially Belle from Beauty & the Beast which shows how she fell in love with her aggressor.. #lesson11 (3/3) scary how much power Disney holds
Not only is our worldview skewed by the Disney conglomerate, Disney hold immense, colossal political & corporate power that shapes our worldview and our unconsideince stereotypes and prejudices which affects our conscious minds later on in life #lesson11 (2/3)
Yes, undoubtedly, the fact that Disney is a massive profit-driven corporation has A LOT of influence on the stories they tell. They areshaping children's naive, innocent unconscious minds (which is a slow but strong) process in affecting many areas of their life. #Lesson11 (1/3)
how's everyone doing with studying at home? personally, with 3 siblings, it's always noisy! especially 3 brothers who play playstation.. because of that I mostly study at night when everyone is sleeping.. sometimes till 4 am.. anyone else?
@DEduc307@DEduc307 what an interesting question! thank you for that question, I'm a night owl so I usually study until literally 4 in the morning lol. I think it's also due to the fact that everyone is home now so it's always noisy, whereas during the night time, it's quiet
@AdreannaMartel@AdreannaMartel I feel like although it's definitely easier for classes to be finished a bit earlier, but at the same time, since all finals/papers are in the same 2 weeks, it's still super stressful
