“You’re wearing my jacket again?”
“Good evening to you too.”
Leon took off his boots and tossed them into the corner. He only removed his jacket once he approached Chris, who was sitting on the sofa. His husband might have seemed careless about seeing Leon again after three weeks away on a mission, but Leon had already learned to recognize the signs: the bags under Chris’s eyes, his voice getting lower, his shoulders slumping.
Chris had probably been waiting for him for hours. It wasn’t Leon’s fault: the plane they’d been traveling on had been destroyed by BOWs, so Leon and his field partner had had to wait for a replacement, with no way to send private messages.
Leon knew that kind of fear because he went through the same thing whenever Chris was away on a mission.
So Leon didn’t argue. He just shrugged.
“And for the record, you left it without a guard.”
Leon settled under Chris’s arm, which the man lifted in sync with Leon sitting beside him. They fit together like two pieces of a perfect puzzle.
“I guess I’ll need to implement a punishment system then.” Chris’s chest rumbled as he spoke, and then he pressed a kiss to Leon’s forehead.
“Promises…” Leon mumbled, hiding his nose in Chris’s chest.
They stayed like that, Chris holding Leon in his arms while his husband grew exhausted and half-asleep already.
Later, Chris would take him to the bath and then put him to bed properly, guarding his dreams.
But for now, second by second, Chris wanted Leon to feel a moment when he no longer had to fight. A moment when the whole world could narrow down to this sofa, Chris’s heartbeat, and the warmth of an October night.
