the boys casting does not get enough credit. like i love the irony of aya cash being jewish when stormfront is a nazi, and valorie curry being a left wing lesbian where as firecracker is a bigoted maga lmao
@fifteenai Check out ccbill or epoch for private payment processing. Stripe nerfed my 6 figure eshop and is famous for letting you operate for a few months to cash in on fees and then cut you loose. Def worth looking into for longevity sake
Today, I'm proud and excited to officially announce and launch Artist Alley, the artist-first fandom marketplace! Over the last year and a half, I've traveled across the world and sat down with hundreds of artists to ask what they'd want in a marketplace platform that doesn't treat them like corporate products. One of the most vocal and consistent complaints was that ALL of these existing platforms take an unreasonable cut of their sales ("Why does Etsy charge me for making a listing before I've even sold anything?") for doing next to nothing for them, while artists had to constantly worry about getting randomly banned for no reason and having no way to appeal. Not to mention the rampant fraud and scams on those websites, the amount of low-effort dropshipping, and miserable chargeback experiences that discourage creators from pursuing what they love doing.
What I've learned from these artists is that the bar to creating a marketplace that doesn't actively screw over its creators is unambitiously low. But why settle for the bare minimum? I spent the last six months developing, testing, and scrutinizing every aspect of an ideal marketplace that truly represents how real artists and vendors today manage and organize their everyday workflow; if artists give their all when they make content for others to enjoy, why shouldn't I? Ultimately, Artist Alley is a statement that creators deserve to benefit from their creations first, and that the platform should fit around the art, not the other way around. One of the core tenets of Artist Alley is that a marketplace platform taking a 0% fee is sustainable in the long-term, despite what these corporations would like you to believe. After all, how are we to know for sure it's NOT sustainable without someone actually trying it? (Sadly I can't do anything about the payment processor fee, but Artist Alley doesn't take anything on top of it.)
There are too many features to mention all of them in this tweet, but the idea is that you can sell and buy digital or physical merch, take or request digital or physical commissions, host auctions and raffles, have your orders automatically organized in a trello board, set up multiple stores, and discover talented artists around the world. Check them out for yourself below! I'll probably be posting short videos of all the features in the coming week. And join our community Discord for updates on new features, submit ideas, and report any bugs!
Pity marketing is a strategy, for sure. When your entire content feed is “I can’t make money because the system is rigged and IG sucks.” and then there’s a Cashapp, Kofi, or Patreon link… that’s a conversion funnel. The currency is guilt..
There’s no incentive to actually grow, your struggle has to stay real and televised from that point. It’s also way to point trolls to the easiest way to hurt you in a personal way. I would never minimize someones struggles but scroll your own feed and ask yourself:
@briteworx_arts Hey home slice Google is free. If you know this a real issue for you how about you stop making your business strategy other peoples issue?
We have more accessible knowledge in human history on the internet. Use that privilege and start researching
@Sandwish_San IMO but I think fan art and trends are a good gateway but the idea that they’re the only way to make money ignores the vast amount of successful original IP.
Ei: Mickey Mouse was some guys blorbo until he got popular enough. Literally anyone can and should do the same
This thread is absolutely right. My folks worked in executive level print advertising. You can be an incredibly talented artist or creator and not having a real marketing plan WILL tank your business.
“I don’t want to do trends or fandom stuff.”
You literally don’t have to.
Im literally on my knees crying and throwing up and begging artists to learn what marketing is. if you want to make money from your art learn about marketing. Im literally begging you
RPG developer Josh Sawyer says Obsidian Entertainment is not against romance systems like the ones in Baldur’s Gate 3.
He explained that these features take a huge amount of time, money, and work to create properly.
“It’s not like an opposition to their existence,” Sawyer said. “It’s just that I don’t know if we’re going to be able to do it.”
Sawyer said romance systems need a lot of extra writing, voice acting, cutscenes, and character reactions. Because of this, Obsidian would rather focus on other parts of a game instead of adding romances that feel incomplete or low quality.
He also said players now expect romance content to be as detailed as Baldur’s Gate 3, which raised the standard for RPG games.
Sawyer added that Obsidian still cares about emotional stories and character relationships.
