In JWST style, we're once again brought even clearer views of the remnant of the explosive death of a massive star 19 times the mass of the sun in the Large Magellanic Cloud, 160,000 light years away: SN1987A. It is the nearest supernova explosion seen (in 1987) since Kelper's supernova in 1604.

This one should have left behind a neutron star, but till now, they've not quite been able to find one (although evidence for one suggested it may be there). But another possibility is that this star collapsed into a black hole, or even, a quark star. We don't quite know, but now, we have better views of it than we ever did. And just maybe, we'll figure it out once and for all!
