@KeriAnnSW @marobertvt I get that, and part of the issue is that I have lower signed status from a disciplinary perpetrator & didn’t know where to call things out in the way I’d normally do. I’m ok with with truth telling. It was a tough session to figure out given that the whole room sort of took over
@marobertvt @KeriAnnSW I empathize tho. Eg, my 1st birth was traumatic & scary. used to tell my story to 1st time preg ppl all the time. When I saw :horror: in my cousin’s eyes it dawned on me that telling my story was harmful & selfish. I needed a therapist to process & learn better ways to help ❤️
@marobertvt @KeriAnnSW felt really unsettled after & reflected on what I could’ve done diff’ly to help convo remain honest but productive/on point wrt the questions/respect for airtime. Tbh I was caught off guard & since these aren’t my people wasn’t sure what next move should be. Nothing felt right.
@CKalinecCraig Your name came up in a sidewalk conversation I had with one of our friends at nctm. After gushing over how much we both love you, I selfishly then wished you were here so that we could catch up—it’s been such a long time! love you and learning from you!
@MandyMathEd I wholeheartedly agree! Seeing friends like you gives me strength; the treasure of a real hug is one I’m not talking for granted. So thankful to reconnect with you and to learn from your brilliance! (Just now seeing this—have been wonderfully busy since we got here.) ❤️
So hard to pick a favorite moment from this interview. Highlights:
1️⃣ The diff between "growth mindset" and "asset orientation."
2️⃣ The ways deficit orientations show up in the classroom.
3️⃣ What @ilana_horn would change if (when??) she's queen. 👑 https://t.co/Ua7BIaeGsi
@blu3r4d0n @COVID_Oversight@OIGatHHS We are all just so proud of you!! Also you're always going to be one of us, so feel free to drop by in a lab from time to time and let us know how things are going. We're going to miss you so much!!
I was saddened to learn that John Branford passed away. He was a deeply kind person with a special way of looking at the world through the lenses of learning.
I remain grateful for his mentoring and the opportunity to learn from him—as a professor, as one of my distinguished dissertation committee members, as someone who engaged in learning from whomever was the at water fountain. Thank you, John, for these gifts.
