A lot of the time, growth can be about survival. Survival of the fittest, even.
You survive in the shadows, stay cool in the shade. But....
You grow in the light and can stay warm gazing into a common fire.
Food scientists have studied how cooking and cooling certain starchy foods can change their chemical structure. When foods like rice, potatoes, or pasta are cooled after cooking, some of the digestible starch converts into resistant starch.
Resistant starch behaves differently from regular starch because it passes through the small intestine without being fully digested, functioning more like dietary fiber in the body.
Because it digests more slowly, resistant starch can lead to smaller increases in blood glucose and insulin levels compared to freshly cooked starches, which is why researchers study its effects on metabolic health.
Cooling and reheating rice does not dramatically change the total calories listed for the food, but it may slightly reduce the amount of starch that is rapidly absorbed, altering how the body processes it.
Nutrition experts generally emphasize that overall blood sugar control depends on portion size, balanced meals, physical activity, and long-term dietary patterns, not just a single preparation method.
In 1945, they started telling us to “drink 8 glasses of water a day,” and that was the same year they added fluoride to our drinking water.
Makes you think, doesn’t it?
Normally, I reply to pretty much everyone.
But lately I’ve realized I don’t have the patience to argue about things none of us can control.
Live your life. Have fun. Touch some grass. Enjoy the moment. Stop giving your time and attention to things that give you absolutely nothing in return.
I stopped watching the news almost two years ago for the same reason. Every time I did, I found myself getting angry about people, decisions and events I had zero control over.
And the older I get, the more obvious it becomes: time is the only currency that actually matters.
Spend it on people you care about. Make something. Go outside. Fall in love. Be ridiculous. Call someone. Touch the fucking grass.
I’m still terrible at following my own advice sometimes. 😅
