@jcnerd choose a tailor who has a good reputation and has made things you've seen and liked. choose based on their house style. avoid cheap tailors who claim they can make anything. a high-end bespoke tailor, even in asia, will charge you about $4k+ for a suit.
A good travel tip from Tom at Redmayne. Tom is a bespoke tailor who travels for trunk shows, and thus packs a lot of high-end garments for fittings. FWIW, this is also how bespoke tailors ship finished garments to customers.
