A fact-check🧵
While the government always presents the budget to Kenyans, the real spending shifts often happen through supplementary budgets that routinely bypass public participation, quietly altering national priorities behind closed doors.
This loophole leaves Kenyans paying for a budget they never actually vetted.

The government is building an airstrip inside a protected forest in Meru. A court ordered work to stop but the construction is ongoing anyway.
This comes after alarms raised as early as September 2025 regarding plans to surrender 50 acres of the forest were ignored.⏳
I received an email from KRA informing me that a supplier of mine owes them money. This is none of my business but the KRA is saying I should now not pay the supplier but pay them directly.
There's no court order. They have just decided.
This is how shylocks operate.

Kenyans may have been paying cartel prices for something as basic as a mattress.
The most shocking part? The companies under investigation may have accidentally handed investigators evidence that they were communicating with one another. ~ BD
Here's what happened:
On March 30, Bobmil Industries, Super Foam, Foam Mattress, Jumbo Foam Mattress Industries and Vitafoam Products allegedly jointly filed a court case seeking to stop an anticipated Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) dawn raid.
That may have been a costly mistake.
By filing together, the rival companies appeared to demonstrate the very communication and coordination that investigators were probing.
After realizing their mistake, the suit was withdrawn the following day, but CAK proceeded with the raids anyway, seizing phones, laptops, hard drives, sales records and other documents in search of evidence of alleged price-fixing.
The allegation is that these manufacturers coordinated mattress prices and agreed on when to increase or decrease them, rather than competing independently.
If proven, Kenyans may have spent years paying artificially inflated prices for one of the most basic household items.
When you wonder why so many products in Kenya seem overpriced, perhaps this investigation offers a clue.
What other industries do you think deserve the same scrutiny?
The government will start selling non-personal data collected through platforms like eCitizen to generate extra revenue from information in demand by researchers, businesses and other organisations.
