Now that GCI has closed I wanted to post some thoughts about this whole Club Icarus era.

My favorite thing about kpop has always been going to concerts and watching performances. I’ve been to nearly 100 at this point, and they are almost always the same exact format. GCI both followed and broke the norm, the pacing and format was pretty much the same as always but by really leaning into the concept of Club Icarus they made it the most interesting and entertaining concert I’ve seen. The tour really felt like part of the album in a way I have never seen before.

I’ve always loved and have been so proud of ARTMS for their unique artistic direction and this whole era has been a testament to that. I remember after the clubbing event in Seoul Kim Lip had asked what I thought of the event. I thought for a second, and said that I’m realizing I always want to say the same thing every time, but it’s true. Not just that it was amazing, I loved it… but that everything they do is so unique. I had never heard of a kpop event like that before, and loved clubbing with fellow fans.

Club Icarus was an amazing album and seeing the girls and the fandom really bring it to life at the clubbing events and concerts was something truly special. I’ll always remember clubbing with fellow fans, the mass of wings, the amazing performances, and all of the fun times with friends.

I think the story that ARTMS has been telling through their albums really resonates with lots of fans and is another large part of why I’ve come to love them so much. It warms my heart every tour seeing people talk about how happy it made them, how much the girls helped them, and to see the members talk about all the love they received.

Although these feelings are echoed every tour, Grand Club Icarus felt like a time to really embrace them. It was a club for the broken, but also a place to be reborn. Both in the story and in ARTMS’ career this really felt like a turning point. After everything the girls and the fans have been through we needed time to heal and find ourselves again before moving forward.

I could say so much about this era and all of the happy memories, but there’s one in particular that feels right. There was a group call where I thought of something I really wanted to say to all the members.

At the time I was feeling not only really thankful, but frankly just lucky to have ARTMS become my favorite group. I really wanted my next favorite group to be one that I followed from the start. The day that Dall released I know I had found that group, and not just that, but my favorite group of all time. And looking back at Club Icarus, it was the most amazing comeback I had ever seen. I told the members that, and that I felt so lucky to follow from the start because they ended up being the coolest and most interesting group I’ve ever followed, and are making my favorite music of all time. It just makes me really happy to be following this journey with them.

I am so thankful for all of the effort that went into this era. This comeback and tour will always hold such special memories for me. Thank you ARTMS for everything you do, I am so proud of what you have accomplished with this album and tour, there will never be anything quite like it.

I can’t wait to see what you do next, and I know I will love it.
