Bryan, getting “Tdap because Kate’s family has a newborn” is contrary to the evidence. This is because those vaccinated for pertussis are more likely to spread this pathogen.

Why? Two reasons. First, those vaccinated are less likely to have symptoms if infected with the pertussis bacterium but the bacterium still multiplies in their nasopharynx and they then unknowingly spreading it to others (instead of showing symptoms and knowing to isolate). Not science fiction—the hard cold facts as detailed below.

Second, and this makes the reality even worse, because after an unvaccinated person has been infected with pertussis (and is more likely to have symptoms and stay in bed) that person won’t get infected again for many years – but the vaccinated individual can become infected over, and over, and over again with the pertussis bacterium because of the defective immunity this vaccine generates.

If you don’t agree with the foregoing, take it up with the FDA, industry scientists, infectious diseases societies, and the hard cold data and studies:

- As the FDA explained in 2024: “aP [acellular pertussis] containing vaccines induce helper T cells (TH2) memory and neutralizing antibody responses that effectively prevent symptomatic disease but fail to prevent colonization and carriage.” https://t.co/7f46KJyVnb

- As those considered the world's leading pertussis vaccine experts, pharma consultants, and infectious disease societies explained in a consensus paper on pertussis vaccine in 2019: “Natural infection evokes both mucosal and systemic immune responses, while aPVs [acellular pertussis vaccines] induce only a systemic immune response. … Mucosal immunity is essential to prevent colonization and transmission of B. pertussis organisms.

- Consequently, preventive measures such as aPVs that do not induce a valid mucosal response can prevent disease but cannot avoid infection and transmission. … aPV pertussis vaccines do not prevent colonization. Consequently, they do not reduce the circulation of B. pertussis and do not exert any herd immunity effect.” https://t.co/nlLg6dr30h They also explained that: “Lack of mucosal immune responses after aPV administration favor infection, persistent colonization, and transmission of the pathogen.”

As for the rest of your post, appreciate your “Note” pointing out some of the potential confounders but there are more, including other confounders and data that reflect the reality may be the opposite of what these studies indicate. I appreciate, however, that you are trying to view them objectively. That said, I would welcome having you on my podcast to go through these studies and more!

Wild fact about oats you probably don’t know. The same glyphosate (a known carcinogen) used as a weedkiller is also used to harvest them. Sprayed on the crop 7-10 days before harvest to kill the plant and force it to dry faster. Whole field dries uniformly at once. Saves money on grain dryers. Glyphosate gets absorbed into the plant and locked in the grain itself before harvest. No washing or processing removes it

This brand prohibits glyphosate usage entirely and are easy to find. They’re also sprouted which significantly breaks down the phytic acid neurotics love to complain about. Been buying them at Whole Foods for a while, found them at Costco last night. Don’t fall for the anti oat propaganda. Bad sourcing created a bad rep for an otherwise good grain

Há quem diga que a felicidade está em colecionar passagens aéreas, carimbos no passaporte e fotos diante de paisagens espetaculares. Viajar é sim muito maravilhoso. Amplia a cabeça, muda perspectivas, faz a gente perceber que o mundo é muito maior do que o nosso cotidiano. Mas, com o tempo, descobri uma coisa bem simples: existe uma experiência humana que é ainda mais profunda do que viajar. A de ter filhos.

Não é apenas acrescentar mais uma pessoa à família. É algo que muda a maneira como enxergamos o tempo, a responsabilidade e até o próprio sentido da vida. Viajar nos leva para fora, para outros lugares e outras culturas. E isso é maravilhoso. Porém, os filhos fazem um movimento diferente. Eles nos levam para dentro. Para uma região mais sensível de nós mesmos.

Uma viagem dura alguns dias ou semanas. A aventura de criar um filho dura a vida inteira. E não importa a idade que ele tenha ou venha a ter.

Muita gente gosta de opor filhos e liberdade, como se fossem coisas incompatíveis. Como se ter filhos fosse o fim da possibilidade de viver intensamente. Mas a experiência real costuma ser bem diferente. Filhos não acabam com as viagens. Eles mudam o significado delas. E pra melhor!

Uma praia deixa de ser apenas uma paisagem bonita e vira descoberta. Um museu passa do silêncio e se transforma em curiosidade viva. Uma floresta vira um jardim encantado. Viajar com filhos é olhar o mundo duas vezes. Uma com os olhos adultos, já acostumados com as coisas e outra com os olhos de quem está vendo tudo pela primeira vez.

E há algo ainda mais profundo nisso tudo. Acompanhar o crescimento de um filho é testemunhar o surgimento de uma consciência. Um ser que antes não existia começa a falar, perguntar, imaginar, interpretar o mundo. Poucas experiências humanas são tão impressionantes quanto essa. Em certo sentido, é talvez o mais perto que chegamos de algo que lembra o divino. Participar do mistério de fazer surgir uma vida e ajudá la a encontrar seu caminho.

Pais descobrem que filhos não são projetos acabados. São histórias abertas, cheias de surpresas, escolhas próprias e caminhos inesperados.

Viajar pode nos mostrar o mundo. Mas os filhos, esses nos mostram o futuro. E digo mais, eles são o mundo inteiro.

E talvez a maior viagem que alguém possa fazer não seja atravessar oceanos ou continentes, mas acompanhar, dia após dia, o crescimento de uma nova vida. Uma jornada que começa dentro de casa, mas que continua muito além de nós.

@toobaffled I had flu like symptoms after my first dose. Fainted and seized after my second. Thankfully I was wise enough at 16 to not get the 3rd.

I’m greatful I haven’t noticed any long term effects. My eyes were opened that day to vaccines and doing my own research vs be a blind sheep.
