Did you know spider mites can lay up to 20 eggs per day? Their eggs are spherical and translucent, turning a cream-color before hatching.

A short clip of our cannabis aphid photos. There are a few pointers in this reel showing how to properly identify this aphid. Most importantly, they are best identified under a microscope where you can see their bulbous hairs and antennal tubercles (horn-like projections).

Strawberries are affected by many different types of fungi. In this photo, you are seeing the beginning stages of Botrytis cinerea (Grey Mold). Infections will first appear as small brown lesions, often under the calyx (the green, leaf-like top, which encase a developing flower).

The invasive Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) attacks vegetable and fruit crops throughout Canada. In Ontario, SWD activity is typically detected in spring, and by mid-late July, adults are active in most fruit producing regions.

The Green Peach Aphid is a widespread pest, attacking many different crops throughout Canada. Because of chemical resistance, it is becoming more difficult to control each season. This is why it is important to use natural enemies, like Aphipar or Chrysopa, wherever possible.

Here is a close up photo of an aggressive Tobacco Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) outbreak in a poinsettia crop: adults, larvae and eggs all in one place. In poinsettias, whiteflies are the most common and devastating pest to acquire.

Nutari (Carpoglyphus lactis) is a feeder mite used as an alternative food source for predatory mite populations. Most of the time growers apply this product at the beginning of the season when there is low pest pressure. Predatory mites will thrive with this extra food source.

Nesidiocoris tenuis is a controversial insect in the bio-control world, and one that is illegal to sell here in Canada. It is a generalist predator that controls insect pests like whiteflies. However, if they build up a population in your crop they can cause plant damage.

Thripex-V was specifically designed for ornamental crops where bran (carrier material) often creates esthetic issues sticking to foliage and flowers. Thripex-V consists of N. cucumeris in vermiculite. It is more concentrated, making the product less likely to stick to plants.

Have you noticed tiny black dots on your plants? It could be thrips damage! These annoying insects puncture the epidermal (outer) layer of the plant, sucking out the cell contents, leaving behind silver or bronze streaks from feeding damage in addition to the black fecal matter.

This is an Orius nymph in a pepper crop. Orius nymphs are less than 3mm in length, wingless, teardrop-shaped, and range from yellow-orange to brown in color.

As greenhouse vents begin to open this spring, new pests will enter your facility - one being the Looper Moth! The egg is deposited singularly by the adult, with the flat side affixed to the foliage, and it has longitudinal ridges on the surface.

Entonem is an entomopathogenic nematode. When it enters a pest, it releases symbiotic bacteria into the pest’s body cavity. This bacterium converts the host tissue into a food source, on which the nematode feeds, killing the pest within a few hours to days after infection.
