Thank you Fages ❤️

Chris Fagan statement via Brisbane Lions:

“I’ve been thinking about this for some time and I’m comfortable that now is the right time for Ursula and I to return to Melbourne to be closer to our family.

“Telling the players and football staff today was one of the hardest things I’ve done in my life, together, we have been on a mission to make the Lions the most entertaining and competitive team in the competition, and we have done that. I was grateful to be given the role to coach the Club, and it has been an incredible ride.

“I especially want to thank Ursula and my daughters Jessica and Ellen for their incredible support over the journey, they have backed me through thick and thin.

“This job is all encompassing; I’ve given it my absolute all and I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved, but now is the right time to go.

“This Club has never been in greater shape, and the list profile would suggest this. The boys will continue to contend, and I’ll be their number one fan, but a fresh face at the helm will be a key pillar for the players to come back to next season, as they work hard to achieve more success.

“Ursula and I will really miss the City of Brisbane. We feel like from the time we arrived we’ve been embraced and made plenty of friends at the club and in our community. We will miss it a lot, and we really appreciate the support of everyone during our time here.

“I love how the fans have really embraced the team during my coaching tenure. To see the growth of footy across the State, our membership growth, big crowds filling the Gabba, the development of Brighton Homes Arena, which is far cry from our previous preseason situation, and with a new stadium in a few years the future looks bright.

“I’ll miss the club and it will feel strange not to be involved but for the last ten years I’ve thought about nothing other than how we can improve, get better and be successful. To see the Club develop onfield from cellar dwellers to three-time Premiers has been amazing.

“The Lions are the sum of our parts and everyone across the club has played their role.”

He arrived at a club set on a path, but still trying to find its way out of the bottom four.

He leaves it after three consecutive premierships, having played an enormous role in everything that happened in between.

@DOMfay Yep we got 2 in front level 4 but missed an extra on P2 ballot, sounds like it was extremely competitive with the ballot this year and lots of people missing

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@DOMfay It is the only correct answer

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@madfreodocker @wcorigins @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv Smart business from wce, give up pick 16 and now you’ll get a top 5 player in his position who is in his prime and pick 2. Wasn’t that hard really and imo starce is worth way more than pick 16 but gotta take what you can get 😂

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@wcorigins @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv But lions don’t have to make a FA offer so wce have nothing to match, thus walking him to PSD and WCE don’t get any extra picks. Lions can then match wce bid on starce if an offer is made 😂

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@wcorigins @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv If Allen isn’t signed Friday he goes to PSD and nominates his own contract terms where he is live, but other clubs won’t go for it. It also then reduces the lions interest in trading starce so he walks to PSD to and WCE have to pick between the two. they also miss out on pick 2

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@wcorigins @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv You do realise if starce goes FA then lions sign Allen straight away and WCE compo for Allen at a band 1 level is diluted. So that’s why you’re trading for him. Lions don’t have to trade him, they can both go to PSD and wce would miss out on pick 2 and lions still get annable

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@wcorigins @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv So you’re saying you’ll sign starce as a FA then bris will do same with Allen and the compos get diluted. Happy to do that absolutely

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@AussiePunter32 @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv It is, but then lions also don’t have to trade starce and both walk to PSD, then WCE have to pick one of the two to take in PSD and lions grab the other, then wce also miss out on pick 2 and lions get annable still 🤔

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@wcorigins @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv Starce and Oscar are both FA, so your argument saying you’ll walk him to PSD is dumb. Lions don’t have to offer a FA contract, then both end up in PSD and wce can only pick one of the two and miss out getting pick 2. WcE bid pick 1 and lions already have the points to match too😂

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@AussiePunter32 @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv Love this talk of lions have committed to Oscar and can’t walk away, but reality is wce have committed to starce as well and can’t walk away either, and don’t have pick 2 yet. WCE bid on annable pick 1 and lions already have enough pts to match, that argument is null and void 😂

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@AussiePunter32 @madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv There are multiple ways for the lions to get him as he is uncontracted. There is only one way in which WCE can get pick 2. Losing pick 16 but gaining pick 2 is more important than keeping 16 and missing out on pick 2 😂 lions also get annable regardless of where bid comes

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv Allen will nominate his contract terms and then if wce still decide to select him, then starcevich goes back to the lions where he has no issues and is contending, and wce are left with a player who doesn’t want to be there and picks 1,16,23. Not 1,2,23 which I’d much rather have

[Kostas Kubilius @Kostas_93]

@madfreodocker @Haich44 @10NewsPER @WestCoastEagles @AFL @ScubaStv And lions can thus walk Allen 🤔
