Foxtrot stands as one of the most refined and demanding dances in the ballroom repertoire. Its essence lies in continuous, gliding movement that creates the illusion of effortless travel across the floor. Unlike the more vertical rise and fall of the waltz, Foxtrot unfolds in a smooth horizontal flow, driven by a characteristic Slow-Quick-Quick rhythm that allows dancers to stretch certain moments while keeping the overall motion unbroken.

At the heart of every successful Foxtrot is the frame. Partners maintain a clear closed hold in which the man’s right hand rests firmly yet gently on the woman’s back, while their free hands connect at a comfortable height. Body contact through the upper torso enables the leader to communicate direction and timing through subtle shifts of weight rather than arm pressure. The woman’s posture remains elongated, with a soft inclination of the head that completes an elegant top line. In the performance by Aljaž Škorjanec and Sara Davies, this connection appears almost seamless. Aljaž leads with quiet authority from the center of his body, allowing Sara to respond without visible tension or hesitation.

Footwork forms the technical foundation of the dance. On the slow counts the dancer places the heel first, then rolls through the foot to the ball, creating a long, grounded step. The quick steps travel more lightly, often on the ball of the foot, yet never lose contact with the floor. The free leg swings naturally under the body rather than being forced into exaggerated positions. Clean heel leads and precise placement give the movement its signature polish. Sara’s footwork in this routine was particularly praised for its clarity and consistency, while Aljaž carefully calibrated the length of each step to match his partner’s stride.

Rise and fall in Foxtrot remains deliberately restrained. The body lowers slightly at the end of one figure, then rises gradually through the knees and ankles during the slow step, sustaining that height through the quicks before easing downward again. Excessive lift would destroy the gliding quality. Sway complements this action, allowing the torso to incline gently on turning figures and produce soft, curving lines. These elements combine to create a sense of continuous momentum rather than a series of separate poses.

Classic figures such as the feather step, three step, natural and reverse turns, and various weaves supply the vocabulary. When linked skillfully, they generate an unbroken phrase of movement that travels around the floor. Aljaž constructed the choreography with restraint, selecting patterns that suited both the dreamy tempo of “Dream a Little Dream of Me” and Sara’s developing ballroom skills. The result never felt hurried or overcomplicated. Instead, every transition served the music’s gentle, nostalgic character.

What elevates a Foxtrot from competent to memorable is musicality and shared intention. The slow counts invite the dancers to linger in the sound, while the quicks provide quiet propulsion. When technique, partnership, and musical understanding align, the dance acquires a floating quality that seems almost weightless. In this particular performance, the combination of Aljaž’s precise leading and Sara’s attentive following produced exactly that effect: a polished, lyrical Foxtrot that felt both technically secure and emotionally sincere.

Киянка Марина Вʼязовська, яка розв‘язала математичну задачу про упаковку куль у восьмивимірному просторі, отримала Філдсівську медаль — одну з ❗️НАЙВИЩИХ світових нагород у галузі математики.
Слід додати, що раніше було розв‘язано лише задачу про тривимірний простір, рішення займало триста сторінок.
Марина свою довела на двадцяти трьох сторінках, і зробила це вражаюче елегантно.
А ще вона — друга в світі жінка із Філдсівською премією за всю історію її існування.
