This week in Tangier, Morocco, I was elected President of the Forum of African Regions (FORAF). The mandate of the Forum is to accelerate socioeconomic development, deepen decentralisation and devolution, and position subnational governments as key drivers of continental integration and sustainable development.

I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me by my colleagues across the continent. This is a big responsibility, and I am glad that I will be supported by eminent leaders who have also been elected regional vice-presidents of the Forum. I congratulate their excellencies: Central Africa: Mr. Ousmanou Oumarou (Association of Regions of Cameroon); North Africa: Ms. Mbarka Bouaida (Association of Regions of Morocco); East Africa: Mr. Peter Anyang' Nyong'o (Kisumu County, Kenya); Southern Africa: Mr. Panyaza Lesufi (Gauteng Province, South Africa).

In my remarks, I called for improved synergies among African nations, including subnational governments, to deepen development and sustainable growth. History has shown that visionary leadership, strategic investment, and regional cooperation can overcome geographical barriers.

Around the world, nations have reduced the limitations imposed by geography through infrastructure, transport corridors, canals, and other forms of connectivity that link people, markets, and opportunities.

I believe strongly that Africa has the capacity to do the same. By working together, investing in connectivity, and strengthening partnerships among our cities and regions, we can create sustainable linkages that support trade, innovation, environmental stewardship, and inclusive growth.

Tangier and Cape Town should not merely be seen as distant points on a map, but as anchors of a connected African future. This vision is achievable if we act collectively and embrace the spirit of cooperation that the Forum represents.

Unless they see results, people won't believe you tried.

The world judges effort by its outcome. If you win, you worked hard. If you don't, maybe you didn't try hard enough. That is the verdict, fair or not.

But effort and results are not the same currency. A man can give everything and still come up empty. The ground does not always reward the farmer who worked it hardest.

This is what makes failure lonely in a way that success never is. The person who succeeds gets witnesses. The person who tried and failed stands alone with something nobody can verify and most people won't bother to believe.

The Member representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya, has on Saturday 6th of June, 2026, distributed another batch of free tricycles to selected beneficiaries and donated a tractor to Asa Local Government to support farmers and boost agricultural productivity.

Hon. Shagaya said the initiative is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and improving the livelihoods of constituents.

Beneficiaries expressed joy, relief, and gratitude for the intervention, describing it as a timely opportunity to achieve financial stability and better support their families.

The lawmaker noted that the programme complements the people-centred development agenda of the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON. He also expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, GCON, PhD, and the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives for their continued support of initiatives that positively impact constituents.
