Shame on Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.
There are certain ministries that make you question exactly why they exist, and this is becoming one of them.

Miss World has been underway in Vietnam since August 9. Nigeria has a young woman, Tamunosoye “Soye” Karibi-George, standing on that global stage carrying our flag, our culture and our name; yet where is the loud support from the ministry responsible for promoting Nigeria’s culture and creative image?

Not even a serious public campaign to rally Nigerians behind her.

Meanwhile, look at the energy surrounding countries like Eritrea and Ethiopia. Their people are mobilising, celebrating their representatives and voting like it is a national project. Ethiopia is currently sitting near the very top of the African voting table.

And Nigeria?
Soye and those supporting her are having to keep pushing and begging Nigerians to vote.

You cannot keep talking about “projecting Nigeria’s culture and soft power globally” and then go silent when a Nigerian woman is literally standing on one of the world’s biggest international platforms carrying the Nigerian flag.

What exactly is the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy for if moments like this do not deserve its voice?

What a shame.

The IMF has warned Nigeria to be careful about its plan to borrow $5 billion from First Abu Dhabi Bank in the UAE. The money is not a normal loan. It is coming through a more complicated financial arrangement, and the IMF says deals like this can sometimes have hidden risks because they are not always easy for people to understand.

Nigeria says the money will help pay for government needs, support projects, and manage existing debts. But the IMF is warning that Nigeria should be careful because: * the agreement is complicated, * the full risks may not be obvious, * it could create problems in the future if not properly managed.
