The government must end its continued negligence in Nipah containment and prevention efforts. Despite the emergence of an extremely serious public health crisis in the state, the government continues to display a disturbing lack of urgency. There is not even a visible presence of ministers or senior officials in Kozhikode to coordinate containment measures or address public concerns. The government must abandon its indifferent approach and act with the seriousness the situation demands. The CPI(M) extends its full support to the government in strengthening disease-control measures and instilling confidence among the public. The party also urges everyone to strictly follow the guidance issued by health authorities.
The lack of coordination between the Health Minister and the district administration was evident in the communication regarding the confirmation of the Nipah case and updates on the patient’s condition. It is a matter of grave concern that the minister was reportedly unaware even of the official confirmation of the disease. Equally shocking are reports that the critically ill Nipah patient has still not received the required medication.
The minister was in Kozhikode when the Nipah case came to light. Yet, instead of remaining there to coordinate response measures, he returned to Thiruvananthapuram. This reflects the government's indifferent approach to a matter of immense public importance. Those who, while in opposition, trivialised such health crises by promoting unscientific misconceptions now appear unprepared in the face of a real public health emergency. If the government genuinely views the issue with the seriousness it deserves, the Health Minister should immediately relocate to Kozhikode and lead the containment efforts directly.
Even basic measures such as preparing a comprehensive contact list based on the patient's route map, identifying containment zones, and ensuring systematic monitoring have yet to be implemented. No meaningful intervention has been undertaken to reassure people in the affected locality. The government has also failed to properly consult elected representatives, including the local MLA, or ensure the timely sharing of information. There is a visible reluctance to involve public representatives in containment activities. At the very same time, the government has moved to transfer the Director of Health Services on questionable grounds, in what appears to be an act of vindictiveness, despite the department being at the forefront of this crisis.
Kerala had previously earned global recognition for its effective containment of Nipah, a disease with a high fatality rate and serious public health implications. That achievement was made possible through the determined intervention of the LDF government, strong people-centred mobilisation, and the resilience of Kerala’s public health system. It was built on the extraordinary dedication of healthcare workers such as Sister Lini, who placed public service above their own lives. Unlike the UDF when it was in opposition, the CPI(M) has no desire to turn a public health issue into a political weapon. However, when government inaction threatens public health and safety, the party is compelled to raise these concerns.
At the same time, Kerala is witnessing the spread of multiple diseases, including Shigella, dengue fever, leptospirosis, and jaundice. The government does not appear to possess even accurate data regarding the extent of infections. Fever-related deaths continue to rise. The failure of pre-monsoon sanitation measures has left the state vulnerable to a wider outbreak of communicable diseases. Various departments are engaged in mutual blame-shifting while the people face the consequences. The government must, at least now, be prepared to address these issues through scientific and comprehensive intervention.
NEET-UG 2026: 2.3 million dreams shattered. The massive paper leak & NTA’s failure are a betrayal of our students' hard work. A CBI probe isn't enough—we demand a Supreme Court-monitored investigation to expose the political-bureaucratic nexus behind this scam.
The Women's Reservation Bill, introduced by the BJP with an eye on election politics rather than genuine empowerment, has failed. The BJP's political dramas will no longer work.
Strongly opposed the introduction of the Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha today. Any move that weakens federalism and targets the autonomy of States must be resisted
CPI(M) Central Committee set up a special fund, the Wayanad Relief Fund, as part of the party's response to the landslide disaster in Wayanad. Donations were solicited and collected in Punjab & Sind Bank Account No. 07621000432853. The entire amount collected towards this purpose was contributed to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund in two batches: ₹92,00,000 on 21 March 2025 and ₹99,000 on 26 May 2025 (receipts attached below).
Our mass organizations also raised and contributed money to the CMDRF. The All India Kisan Sabha leadership and the Kerala Karshaka Sangham had handed over a cheque of 1 crore to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at his office in Thiruvananthapuram.
CPI(M) has always been transparent about all its accounts. We have been appreciated for the same by the Supreme Court, no less. Political parties in Kerala and a section of the media that are now raking up this controversy are projecting their own failure to be accountable to the people whom they work for. We would urge them to follow the example that we have set.
pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the explosion that occurred in the nation's capital.
A comprehensive investigation should be conducted into the incident that took place in a high-security zone.
For decades, the RSS has relentlessly tried to paint secular India in saffron. Their ideological invasion is moving from the shadows to the forefront, and it is fundamentally against the interests of the nation.
Now even Saffronising the inaugural Vande Bharat journey.

The PM's @narendramodi statement 'people belonging to SC ST in Kerala are facing neglect' is totally false & misleading. It's a deliberate attempt to spoil the strong inclination of them towards the progressive movement. The Centre is curtailing the funds for SC ST development.
