I realized with age I do not fixate on media in a vacuum, but more of what that media represents to me as a person.

Maybe I'm aging, maybe I'm too exhausted to fixate, but that's what I was able to relfect on over time. It can get quite difficult expressing this to friends.

If there is something I realized about myself is I tend to lean more towards IRL subjects. Often times said interests guide me towards games or movies that have said themes. Then I engage in that content which acts like an infinite loop why I love said subject.

Examples: I love marine life, so Abzü speaks to me. I like irl animals, folk lore creatures, and things true but hard to believe are real, so Pokemon speaks to me. I love psychology, so Psychonauts is peak. I guard my spirituality through Hell and back, so Sky speaks to me.

I had so many issues with BotW way back since 2017 and people gave me hell for it.

Tbh I agree, for one reason only. I don’t think Nintendo know how to make a proper “open world GAME.”

Open world Zelda.
Open world Pokémon.
Open world Mario Kart.
Open world Metroid area.
Now open world Kirby…

But the settings are just one big open area with nothing substantial to do or achieve.

Open world GAMES make the world have areas where you go on sidequests that make the world feel alive and add to the main story or full experience of the game. Picking up random items or discovering a new pointless area, ain’t it.

BOTW was the best Nintendo version of this but it was a low tier open world compared to the likes of peak open world games that came before it, like Skyrim, etc.

On top of that it’s one specific game genre, not every game needs to be open world to be successful, look at the hype of Metroid Ravenous right now.

These series are loosing their identity while these devs try to make everything an open world. I’m looking at you Pokémon.
