Where is a good place to get marketing advice or daily commentary on the cattle market? The guy I usually go through says he don’t have time to do both cattle and grains
Did some math on inflation.
In October 1970 a John Deere 4020 that cost $10,000 would haul a bushel of soybeans worth $3, and feed a cow worth $372.
(Inflation adjusted to 2025)
In October 1970 a John Deere 4020 that cost $83,000 would haul a bushel of soybeans worth $25, and feed a cow worth $3,100.
(Reality in 2025)
In October 2025 a John Deere 6r 145 that cost $220,000 hauls a bushel of soybeans worth $10, and feeds a cow worth $2,900.
In conclusion -
•machinery is ridiculously overpriced
• soybeans are underpriced
• beef isn’t too expensive
@ksufearless I’ve heard we are just buying lean ground, not boxed, and only 20million worth. Grand scheme it shouldn’t make much difference but I’m sure the knee jerk reaction will be much worse
@longgonejohn81@DaveDejmal@alex__hinz Not sure about ag equipment, I know a guy that ships motorcycles across the sea. He says they coat them in WD-40 then just wash off when they get there. Says they’ve done it for years that way
I’m looking for a good mixer/feed wagon. It will only get used when muddy or as a backup for truck. What’s everybody recommend? Thinking Kuhn 3130? Or should I look at something else.
@ksufearless Last couple years seems like the wheat stubble breaks down fast. I blame it more on drought/stressed plants compared to healthy plants than I would chemical burn. Even the milo/corn stalks seem to break down faster over winter last couple years. Again I’d say stress. 🤷🏻♂️
