🚨Bill C-34 may be the greatest threat to free speech in decades. 🚨
We all support keeping kids safe, but the bill would give bureaucrats in Ottawa the power to police adult speech on social media and, shockingly, in artificial intelligence.

Canadian law enforcement wants dragnet surveillance. Track everyone's location now, ask questions later. Did you bike down a street and passed by a house with a crime occurring? You're now a person of interest because your location is always known to police. C-22 must die.
RCMP’s justification for mandatory metadata retention? The ability to track everyone in the vicinity of a crime scene. In other words, Bill C-22 will create a national surveillance map capable of tracing where you have been and with whom you communicate.

Now is the last chance for Canadians to urge their MPs to reject Bill C-22, the Lawful Access Act. This bill will give government and police easy access to your private internet data.

@signalapp, @NordVPN, @windscribecom, and @ProtonVPN are among the companies that will withdraw their services from Canada if Bill C-22 passes.
If passed into law, Bill C-22 will allow the government to:
- order companies to develop capacity for organizing and extracting your data for law enforcement review
- order companies to install devices that feed your information to government and law enforcement
- order companies to retain your data for up to one year
issue orders in secret.

Canada’s Bill C-22, widely criticized for expanding state surveillance and undermining freedoms, would force developers to weaken security and implement backdoors. NORSE Labs cannot comply — neither morally nor legally. Here’s why.
Thread 🧵👇
🚨 Canada’s Bill C-22 is here & it’s the same surveillance bill from last year's failed C-2. 🚨
What does this mean?
❌ Your metadata would be stored by electronic service providers - for example messaging and email providers - for up to 12 months.
❌ The government would force these companies to build surveillance capabilities directly into their platforms.
The government calls it “lawful access” but we know that forcing providers to enable access to encrypted data puts EVERYONE'S privacy & security at risk. 😡
Because we know that there is no backdoor for the good guys only!
Help us fight for Canadian's privacy & say no to this surveillance bill.

Oh this is just rich... Bill C-22 is driving VPN businesses like ours out of Canada because of the required user logging. And in the same breath you tell people to secure their data with VPNs.
I hope you bought your circus tickets folks, because the clown show is starting.
Regarding Canada's Bill C-22: @ProtonVPN is Swiss. Complying with foreign surveillance orders without Swiss legal process is a criminal offence. Not happening.
We'll defend our Canadian users and never compromise them. We will fight C-22's application by every means available.
I'm the CRO of @Sync, Canada's end-to-end encrypted cloud storage provider, and Canada's Bill C-22 stands to cause immeasurable harm to the rights of Canadian citizens, and an industry that Canada should be leading in the technology sector.
This bill will cause an exodus of companies, investment, and talent and will not make Canadians any safer. This is a mass government surveillance bill that aims to make privacy companies and people agents of the state. Canada already has methods to collect data, through legal means and using warrants.
This goes against everything @Sync stands for and we will continue to fight against this bill and we are preparing additional measures should this misguided bill come to pass.

So, Google is banning apk side loading on Android just as the EU is planning to ban encryption?
So, EU bans something like Signal from Google Play Store, Google will make sure you can't get it elsewhere?
@Grummz Put out ad. Secretly push controversy. Social media picks up on it. Sit back with lots of free advertising. All anyone talks about is your ad and product. Things start to die down. "We're not sorry." Refresh interest.
The American Eagle fiasco is a psyop. I firmly believe they planted the idea that it's Nazi propaganda. Now EVERYONE is providing free advertising. It's all Twitter talks about. No bad publicity. @RyanHoliday talks about this exact thing in Trust Me I'm Lying.
I actually received this cold-email:
