I started taking pictures of my friends who are XRs, realized I’m having a ton of fun and want to expand.

John Shirreffs was a great trainer and he will always be remembered as the man who trained one of the greatest horses many will ever see, Zenyatta. Shirreffs passed today at the age of 80. Across the years, Shirreffs saddled 596 winners, including @kentuckyderby winner Giacomo.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kathleen many times. She is a spirited mare with strong opinions & a good heart. She’d loudly squeal with joy on cold mornings. Hoping she’s purchased by people who will treat her as the Queen she is & give her the best care in this new chapter 🩷

John was a spirited man who cared immensely for the horses & his team. I’ve seen him go out of his way to protect both on multiple occasions. The NYRA community was lucky to have him and he will be greatly missed. Rest easy, John 🤍

We’re saddened to learn about the passing of Assistant Trainer John Attfield. In his memory, we’re sharing his Backstretch Heroes feature from this summer. Our thoughts are with everyone at @morley_racing and all who knew him.
