And if you call in, and get that automated message about them not taking calls. Just keep trying, eventually you’ll get let in. The phone options are 1 - 2 - 1 - then your WestJet loyalty number.
Wait time is now around 1.25 hours. Then another 3 to get your change confirmed.
Final Update - We’re booked. Finally. 3 extra days in Mexico isn’t bad by any stretch. The uncertainty, having to book nightly for the next day because we didn’t know what was happening. As a father that killed me.
If you’re affected by this, or currently still affected by this, I really feel for you. Happy to share what I’ve learnt if it’s any help, or even just a measuring stick.
The one thing that’s apparent. If you don’t nudge @WestJet by calling, you’re likely not a priority.
@rijan44@AirPassRightsCA@WestJet Best of luck with the claims process. I honestly wanted to avoid 6 months of nothing with the hope I get my 8K back. I’d prefer spend the $600 on the hotel and take the best option we agreed on.
Update - Almost at the 5 hour mark. I’m not 30 minutes beyond the 48 hour mark from my original departure. This means that the airline is supposed to take the next available option regardless of partnership. @AirPassRightsCA is that not the case? @WestJet
Update - Finally an agent is willing to go the extra mile to give me options, consider my kids, and take this to the end. I’m 3 Hours 41 minutes into this call. I’ve spent almost 24 hours on the phone with @WestJet. Almost every waking minute today has been on the phone.
@AirPassRightsCA@WestJet@Transport_gc I asked the “Supervising Agent” if she minded me recording her disputing @WestJet’s ability to book non-partner airlines. Immediately declined. I pressed her on the subject. She then hung up on me… so I’m back in the queue… 2.5 hours in again
Update - I’m back on with another agent after my previous call was dropped at the 6 hours mark. She is again suggesting that @WestJet can only book within the partner network. I am again having to explain APPR regulations. @Transport_gc sort this out. @AirPassRightsCA
Update - I’m back on the line with @WestJet’s call centre. Seems like when I get the Mexican based agents, the calls are much smoother. I’m confined to either spending money, or trying again with them. I can’t put $7-8K out there with no idea when or if I get that back.
@WestJet I spent 7 hours on hold only for your agent to claim that there were no flights to Dublin on any of your competitor flights. I have screenshots of flights being available leaving on Wednesday. I have recorded the conversation and your agents are not following the APPR.
@Ravi_makani@WestJet They’re screwing us over bud. I was told by one of the “supervisors” in the @WestJet call center they can only book on partner airlines. APPR is a joke at this point.
The only option I seem to be left with now is booking family and I at our own expense. @WestJet keeps pushing for Partner Airlines ONLY which is against the APPR guidance for someone already past the 48 hour window from original departure. @AirPassRightsCA
@WestJet I’ve spent more than 20 hours trying to get re-accommodated by @WestJet. Nothing happens if I don’t call them. @CBCOttawa / @ctvottawa My flights were cancelled on SUNDAY, I have no re-accommodation. I’m likely going to need to book myself, and sink thousands into getting home.
Update - I’m back on with another agent after my previous call was dropped at the 6 hours mark. She is again suggesting that @WestJet can only book within the partner network. I am again having to explain APPR regulations. @Transport_gc sort this out. @AirPassRightsCA
Update - I asked for a supervisor (Meen I believe was her name). I challenged her on @WestJet only booking within the Partner Network given I’m more than 48 hours out from my original departure. She argued with me that they can only book within the Partner Network, then hung up…
Ottawa lets airlines like @WestJet get away with substandard service. My family is stuck in Mexico with zero correspondence of meaning from the airline. I’m coming up on 48 hours from my intended departure without reaccommodation. Airlines need to do better! @PattyHajdu
