Thread: Why #NHL27 is shaping up to be one of the worst releases in franchise history

1. The big new feature, Connected Franchise (GM Connected), is incomplete.

They’re launching a full-priced game built around a mode that’s missing progression, aging, the draft, and more.
Start a rebuild and you’re stuck in rebuild forever. Your players have no potential or value. You can only trade overall for overall and replay the exact same season over and over.

EA’s response: “We’ll add the stuff you want in future years.”
So pay $89.99 now for an unfinished mode, then pay another $89.99 next year when they finally finish it. Classic.

2. Arena animations and player entries.

They basically brought back features that existed 10+ years ago and are selling them as new.
Having proper arena presentation in a sports game is the bare minimum. It shouldn’t be one of the main selling points, especially when it was already in the game in 2013 and they removed it for no reason.

3. HUT and World of Chel.

These modes barely change year to year (which is fine if they’re fun), but they’ve become more pay-to-win than ever.
They’re adding paid builds in WOC while refusing to bring back a fair progression system like FC or NHL 14 that actually helps new players.

In HUT they keep lowering the quality of free rewards and locking the best cards behind expensive packs.
“Here’s the new 99 Chaara… want him? Drop $80 on a pack with a 50% chance or eat glue.”

These modes should reward performance and time played, not how much money you’re willing to spend.

4. The game’s aesthetics.

If you’re not going to change much on the ice, at least put effort into the small details so the game feels different.
Menus, loading screens, mode interfaces, pack animations, customization menus… older NHL games changed these every year.

Now they just swap the font and background color.
The HUT pack opening animation hasn’t changed since NHL 19.
If you can’t even bother updating the thing that makes you the most money, it just proves you’re not willing to put in the effort to make the experience feel fresh.

5. You’re paying $100 for what is essentially an incomplete update.

Other games drop more meaningful content in free monthly patches than EA manages to put in a full-priced yearly release.
Why wait a whole year and drop nearly a hundred bucks for a copy-paste with a few features that should have just been free updates?

It’s ridiculous.

$30 USD (roughly) for a pack of digital cards that are meaningless in a few more months. 3 years ago a weaker minded me desperate for content would have spent the money. Please learn from my stupidity. Don’t buy packs.

The Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a deal to acquire right-hander Jose Berrios from the Minnesota Twins, sources tell ESPN. Twins will be getting back multiple prospects. Big get for the Blue Jays, who needed pitching badly and get the best arm. @Ken_Rosenthal was on it.
