Watched this indie named KONCHAM HATKE. It’s definitely one of the better entrants in the ‘Encourage new talent’ category despite the evident constraints and the hiccups. What I liked about this film about filmmaking is how it reflects the cinephile angst in hilarious ways. It features some super amusing conversations that mirror the snobbish perspective towards popular cinema—some of them play out exactly like Twitter discourse and I mean it in a good way. I’m telling, this film is literally made for ‘Twitter cinephiles’ and once again, I mean it in a good way.

That being said, I do wish it focused more on how these characters finally end up making the film, instead of reducing it to montage sequences at the end. It felt too simplified and convenient but I understand the limitations. Likewise, we learn more about characters through voice over than their actions. But that’s okay, it’s a team of newbies and there’s always scope for improvement, if provided with the resources.

Shoutout to the actors GV (Aditya Varun) and Vidya Sagar (Kranthi), who are scream in almost every scene. Kranthi, especially is the standout character. His line delivery is hilarious!

I watched the film at a PVR. The ticket is priced at ₹112. It’s not a perfect film but a fun attempt—has the feel of a personal project put together by friends—and if you are in the mood to experiment, you can give this a shot.

First Double Engine and now this, I’m glad these little new-age films are making it to the theatres. Would be good if they are supported.
