@ItalianQueenAri@laurarw I think it can have a positive impact if used for educational purposes, but mostly I use it for personal use. I think it has mostly negatively impacted me because of how frequently I use it and have become addicted to scrolling instead of doing homework.
@Mholmannn@laurarw I think there is for sure a loss of originality now that there are so many social media platforms. I think Instagram is trying to have shorter videos like TikTok, and it makes sense because it's so popular. A lot of companies recycle ideas and hashtags.
@t_lb_t@laurarw I think it's within their rights because if it's public anyways, then who's to know who has already seen it? I think people should make most of their accounts private if they have suggestive content before submitting an application to a company that does screen potential hires.
@noah_bruce01@laurarw I think we should be fact checking for ourselves more. I think social media should do a better job at making sure in general there isn't misinformation being spread, but it may be the case that they don't realize it because they want their posts to align with their views
@laurarw#ucengl2074 https://t.co/6VgLhIA690 Do you feel like your family relationships have been affected by social media? If so, how? Have they been affected positively or negatively?
@lsr305s @laurarw social media is a lot of times how I stay connected to people I know. I feel like I would miss a lot if I wasn't on social media because I have friends in different locations. I have considered it because sometimes it can get overwhelming for me
@cdavis901@laurarw Social media definitely divides us more than uniting us. It’s so easy to sit behind a screen and get bashed for your political opinions. Today’s cancel culture is so toxic along with people getting offended all the time; it’s hard to put your opinions out there.
@musicalshazel @laurarw I like that this article gives a little blurb about each tool because I had never heard of any of these besides google analytics. I learned about buffer from one of our presentations but the rest are very new to me. I’d like to learn more about all of them cause I’m so new to it
@nataliegalle_uc @laurarw The article mentions “if it’s done right” the activism can have a lot of impact, which I agree. If a celeb posts a hashtag their followers are likely to follow and post too, gaining awareness for it. But sometimes there’s no follow up. They do it once and then they’re done.
@LeahBoehner@laurarw There’s no way that social media could change my decision this close to the election but it more so reiterates why I’m voting. I think it’s super important to vote if eligible and I think with all the negativity on social media we sometimes forget that!
@samfluffypants@laurarw I didn't even think about posting guest blogs to increase traffic on your website or blog but it makes total sense. I also did already know that posting infographics is helpful to get traffic so that's cool that the article mentioned that!
@lydiaemiller11@laurarw I feel like there are a few skills on here that I could work on. One being to not make it all about me, and focus on the brand. However, that might be easier if posting from a business page. Another skill is replying back. A lot of times I accidentally ignore notifications
@mike_schlott@laurarw I don't think notifications are a ploy for marketing, I think they're meant to get user interaction and have people check their phones. Everytime I pick up my phone I instantly check my notifications. They probably curb my productivity a lot more than I realize.
@Mholmannn@laurarw I think I am in these chambers especially on Instagram and TikTok! They cater content to me because it’s likely that I’ll like it, which is more engagement for them. I don’t want to be freed though because although it’s important to see opposing views, I don’t want it in my feed
@alexisboone91@laurarw I feel like I am very addicted to social media! since fall semester I have been limiting screen time to only at night but I still end up scrolling for hours on ends. I'm not sure if it's as addictive as cigarettes or alcohol, but I understand where the article is coming from.
@ItalianQueenAri@laurarw For me social media has heightened my empathy and allowed me to connect with others who go through my struggles as well! It also is helpful to keep in contact with friends and family (esp during the pandemic). Other apps have helped me make friends online as well, great article!
@jaylaxchristina @laurarw If Twitter removes the likes/ retweets it wouldn’t really bother me personally but if that was on Instagram or Facebook? I would be a little bit because for me it’s a validation that other people have seen my post and are interacting/ interested in what I have to say
@t_lb_t@laurarw I think for sure these measures may make some difference, especially in influencing voter turnouts but still another issue is how many Americans believe everything that they read on Facebook and take that at face value. I think there will be less misinformation spread overall.
@laurarw Hi everyone I just joined the class!! I am a fourth year creative writing major with 2 certificates in Deaf studies and Communications. #ucengl2074
@laurarw I have experience managing social media accounts for a club so I would say I have skills for communication, creativity, customer care and writing. I need skills in analysis because I am more of a creative mind; I’m not very analytical as a person. #ucengl2074
