@mattan0n I’m wondering g this myself. The more I look into it the less confidence I have that Jesus said/did most of what is presented in the gospels
And the rest of the NT just seems … like whatever documents the winning team of Christians at the time liked 🤷♀️
@Katapetasma2 I’ve long wondered this
But, it does seem like Jesus can’t be speaking literally because no one fits cleanly in one category. Maybe someone has never visited someone in prison but has fed the hungry, eg
@majestyofreason is as serious as it gets.
It will absolutely cloud your judgement and sway your thinking. OCD will convince you to do/believe things you never would otherwise.
Please, give yourself grace. You are not responsible for other people's sin. Take a while away from the spotlight.
@majestyofreason Joe, with all the love in my heart, I strongly urge you to consider stepping back from being an online public presence. If you are struggling with OCD/scrupulosity, I think you need the help of competent mental health professionals. I have a loved one with this condition and it
@wil_da_beast630 I think this is probably true, but what seems to be implied is that if work is done just to ‘impress other women,’ then it’s therefore kinda stupid and could be skipped
Which completely ignores women’s social web and the impact it has on them and their families.
@yerkio92 But this is kind of my point. Christians go to Paul regularly to soften things Jesus says plainly, to try and think of them a in a diff way
Because Paul’s message is not the message of Jesus in the Synoptics.
@yerkio92 How does Matt721-:23 help? Seems to make it worse. So people who think they are believing in Jesus and doing stuff in his name might get cast out? So not only do you have to basically be perfect in your actions, you are belief has to be perfect in some way that isn’t explained
@yerkio92 Fine, but that’s kind of a crazy requirement imo
Also, in Jesus‘s day, there were many failed messiahs, or similar figures, who were literally killed. Them and all their rebel supporters. By Rome in a brutal way. I think anyone hearing that would think he meant it literally.
@yerkio92 church services when passages from the Bible are read. His response to some of the things Jesus says is eye opening. There are many truly terrifying things, even to a believer. You essentially have to run to a diff author to find something that contradicts what Jesus just said.
@yerkio92 But you would only believe that if you also heard Paul or the Gospel of John.
If you just look at what Jesus says in tue Synoptics, you get a lot of really scary stuff.
I have a loved one with severe anxiety and who is extremely scrupulous. I have sat next to him at many many
