Being a medical mama means being on the phone with @UHC and being transferred 45+ min with no help or case manager to figure out how to get my handicap daughter a prescribed activity chair that insurance claims is not medically necessary - just convenient 😭🤯😡
Dean Smith said, "A coach's job is to be part servant in helping each player reach his goals within the team concept.”
Great leaders believe they serve the team.
• They care
• They develop others.
• They believe in others.
The core of servant leadership is wanting to see others at their best.
Leadership isn't about receiving anything from your team, but being there to give to your team.
How to Be a Better Servant Leader:
1. Commit to Others - Servant leadership starts with a deep commitment to the growth and well-being of others. It centers on understanding and support, not just in people's roles but them as individuals. Learn their goals and desires. Think about how you can help people reach their professional and life goals.
2. Build Relationships and a Sense of Community - It shouldn't just be about yourself, but it should be about the team. Create an environment where everyone feels valued and connected. You should have a great attitude, be collaborative, and work together. Empower them, love them, and care for them.
3. Lead by Example - As a leader, responsibility and ownership starts with you. You are the model for the team's outcomes, good and bad. You set the standard and lead by example showing the everyone the importance of learning and growth. Setting a positive example promotes a high standard of ethics and professionalism within the team, inspiring others to emulate these behaviors.
4. Be Emotionally Intelligent - Understanding and managing your emotions, as well as empathizing with others, is key. It’s not just about doing things, it’s about understanding why and how. Implement this by being self-aware, regulating your responses, and showing genuine care and understanding for your team's feelings and perspectives.
5. Steer the Ship - While servant leadership emphasizes support, it also requires guiding your team towards the right direction. Lead with clarity and vision. To implement this, set clear goals, provide the necessary resources, and make informed decisions that align with the team's objectives and values.

Sometimes there are circumstances in your work environment that are awful. That’s the reality. Most of those circumstances are out of your control. That’s also the reality.
Keep caring about students. Keep supporting your colleagues. Don’t overlook the little moments of joy.
A toxic leader will wall himself off from any negative feedback. If criticism does make its way over the wall, the leader will claim he was blindsided and that followers need to be more assertive. He erects barriers to truth-telling and then blames others for not speaking truth.
Strong leaders lead from character, tell the truth, and draw deep goodness from those who follow.
Ineffective leaders lead reactively, unmoored and fragmented.
Toxic leaders lie, abuse, and manipulate, promoting the moral devolution of their followers, breeding crisis.
