"We need millions of Osama bin Ladens."

Back in 2006, an analyst on Al Jazeera justified the September 11th attack.

Five years after 3,000 people were murdered by Al Qaeda, Al Jazeera dedicated a full episode of its flagship debate show The Opposite Direction to “debating” the merits of the terrorist assault.

One of the guests, Moroccan writer Khnata Bennouna, spent much of the show defending Osama bin Laden and the so-called “mujahideen." Here's just some of what she said:

🔸️“I send respect and reverence to every mujahid on the Arab battlefield, from Osama bin Laden to Hassan Nasrallah to the Iraqis, to anyone who raises a weapon against the American-Zionist monster.”

🔸️ “We need millions of Osama bin Ladens because this is a battle of existence or extinction.”

🔸️ “We were not responsible for September 11. America made it and pushed us to make it.”

🔸️“If this is terrorism, then I am proud of it.”

The host of the program, Al Jazeera's Faisal al-Qassem, opened with a question that set the tone:
“Why has September 11 turned into a new Holocaust to blackmail Arabs and Muslims?”

When people call Al Jazeera “just another news outlet,” remember this episode.

Historiker Jakob Tanner hat im Tages-Anzeiger einen Text über den Grossmufti von Jerusalem veröffentlicht, der ein Verbündeter (und nicht bloss Verehrer) der Nazis war.

Haj Amin al-Husseini kam am 6. November 1941 in Berlin an und traf sich mit Adolf Hitler und später auch mit anderen Nazi-Grössen wie etwa Heinrich Himmler. Dort blieb er bis zum Ende des Krieges, von wo er die Shoa mitorganisierte. Das wird im Text nicht erwähnt.

Vor allem fehlt jeder Bezug zum ägyptischen Terroristen jassir Arafat, dessen Doyen und Förderer er war.

Nach dem Krieg, im Jahr 1946, ermutigte al-Husseini den Ägypter Jassir Arafat, der damals in Kairo studierte, die Führung beim Kampf gegen die Juden anzustreben. Ein ehemaliger deutscher NS-Offizier, der den Mufti nach Ägypten begleitet hatte, gab Arafat geheime Unterrichtsstunden. In der Folge beteiligte sich Arafat ab 1948 mit der ägyptischen Muslimbruderschaft am Palästinakrieg gegen Israel. Später finanzierte Al-Husseini Arafats im Jahr 1958 gegründete Fatah. Die Palästinensische Nationalcharta der im Jahr 1964 gegründeten PLO übernahm Al-Husseinis Ziele. Als der Mufti im Jahr 1974 starb, schritt Arafat bei seinem Begräbnis in Beirut direkt hinter seinem Sarg her (Video)

Der Terrorist Arafat, der im Jahr 1994 mit dem Friedensnobelpreis ausgezeichnet wurde, hat sich von seinem Mentor und Förderer, der ein Nazi war, nie distanziert. Er nannte den Mufti noch 2002 in einem Interview «unseren Helden», den die Westmächte «als einen Verbündeten der Nazis betrachteten» und vergeblich loszuwerden versucht hätten. Er sei einer seiner Soldaten gewesen. Das Ziel eines «judenreinen» Palästinas behielt Arafat bis zu seinem Lebensende im Jahr 2004 bei.

Jakob Tanner blendet in seinem Text diese Tatsachen aus. Stattdessen kritisiert er die Neutralitätsinitiative, indem er auf die Unterlassungen der Schweizer Behörden verweist. Er verschweigt dabei weitere entscheidende Fakten, die ihm politisch nicht ins Konzept passen (wie bei der Nichterwähnung der Verbindung zwischen dem Mufti und Arafat).

Hier die Fakten:

Am 7. Mai 1945 flog der Mufti nach Bern. Die Schweiz gewährte ihm kein Asyl, internierte ihn kurz und übergab ihn an die französischen Behörden. Frankreich hielt ihn ab Mai 1945 rund ein Jahr unter lockerem Hausarrest in Villen bei Paris, unter anderem in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés und später in Bougival. Er durfte sich weitgehend frei bewegen, Gäste empfangen und verfügte über Personal. Grossbritannien verzichtete auf eine harte Auslieferungsforderung, um die arabische Öffentlichkeit nicht zu verärgern. Jugoslawien beantragte seine Auslieferung als Kriegsverbrecher wegen seiner Rolle bei der Waffen-SS-Division Handschar, zog den Antrag später jedoch zurück bzw. Frankreich lehnte ab. Frankreich weigerte sich ganz grundsätzlich, ihn auszuliefern und hoffte damit auf bessere Beziehungen zur arabischen Welt. Am 29. Mai 1946 flog er mit einem falschen Pass unter dem Namen Maʿrūf al-Dawalībī mit einer TWA-Maschine von Paris nach Kairo. Die französische Regierung meldete die Flucht erst Tage später. Ägypten gewährte ihm dann Asyl.

Wie man sieht, wollten Staaten wie Grossbritannien und auch Frankreich sich nicht die Finger verbrennen, indem sie den Mufti als Kriegsverbrecher verfolgten, weil sie sich damit eine gute Beziehung zu den Arabern erhofften.

Nun stellt sich die folgende Frage:

Hätte ein neutraler Kleinstaat wie die Schweiz, der im Krieg nicht beteiligt war, dem Mufti den Prozess machen sollen? Auf welcher Grundlage, wenn man bedenkt, dass sich solche Prozesse erst in der Anfangsphase in der Rechtsentwicklung befanden? Beweist die Unterlassung der Schweiz wirklich den Umstand, dass die Schweiz nicht neutral gewesen sei, weil sie ihn laufen liess? Die Schweiz hat ihm das Asylrecht verweigert und ihn an die französischen Behörden überstellt, welche diese Rolle hätten spielen müssen. Stattdessen konnte der Mufti in Paris genau dort weitermachen, was durch das Kriegsende kurz unterbrochen wurde.

Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades (Hamas) and affiliated terrorist organisations like Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades (using the European Union’s naming convention) not only killed IDF soldiers when they encountered them; they also killed many civilians on sight.

GeoConfirmed volunteers have geolocated more than 500 separate pieces of footage related to the 7 October attacks.

In several cases, it was also possible to identify the specific terrorist organisation, using the European Union’s naming convention, responsible for the killings.

There’s absolutely zero similarity between Gaza and the Holocaust. Better yet, they’ve never demonstrated that the reason civilian deaths happen in armed conflict in Gaza (where ~2/3 deaths are civilians) were because of “Israeli techniques.”

What they’ve failed to provide is that Hamas, as a belligerent, is culpable for its own techniques of weaponization of civilian and humanitarian infrastructure that causes such places to lose their protections subject to a proportionality analysis.

You have a lot of people who claim that Israel committed these egregious war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide in Gaza but never demonstrate a basic understanding of the law of armed conflict and international law, and how that applies to the situation because of the conduct of Hamas.

Ultimately, this excuses Hamas from having agency for its actions and leads to more civilians being hurt and killed because Hamas sees the tactics as a valuable tool for them that gets them what they want: Blame shifted to Israel.

It’s a ludicrous proposition and lack of understanding of both reality and law that causes this unnecessary breakdown that harms innocent people.

And @yuval_abraham and crew are helping propagate it in the worst way possible.

You can (and should) care about innocent Palestinians without shifting the agency from the party who committed the actual criminal act to the one who acted within the known scope of the law and thus causing further harm to those innocent Palestinians because of the excusing of the agency for Hamas.

A few years ago, one of my classes got canceled, so I went for a walk in the hills near Jerusalem. After walking through the woods for a bit, I came by a monument to the victims of 9/11, overlooking Jerusalem's famous Har HaMenuchot cemetery.
It's a handsome monument that depicts a flame made from the American flag with a piece of metal taken from the ruins of the Twin Towers displaying inside the base.
The names of the victims are inscribed in stone around the statue. As far as I know, this is the only monument with the names of all the victims outside of the United States.

Four days ago, Hamas terrorists abducted three Palestinian women in Gaza: Yasmeen, Katreen, and Iman Ahl. Two are mothers of babies, who have now been left without their mothers.

The women were visiting relatives whom Hamas was seeking at Al-Shifa Hospital. When a confrontation broke out with Hamas internal-security operatives, the women recorded the abuse they witnessed. Hamas then abducted them, and they remain in its custody.

Their families are urging human-rights organizations to intervene and demand their immediate release.
