@darren_olivier after seeing the SAAF Gripen over Simon’s Town this morning, I was think about a few things. She was clear,y carrying missiles on her wingtips, what’s the progress with the A-Darter and secondly, why was she over Simon’s Town?
@thyphoidjack@AntonBarna11828 Too much about the ship and the photo doesn’t look right, like her bow looks cut off. I suspect this photo has been edited with AI to add in the black smoke for whatever reason.
@darren_olivier Instead of taking it for what it is, which is, pretty cool fighter jets flying over Johannesburg. Instead they’ll rather say ”oh but they’re the only ones left” and when they don’t see them flying “oh there aren’t any flying”. No understanding of the SANDF and how aircraft work.
@darren_olivier It truly is painful trying to explain aircraft availability to people like this Darren. Obsessed with thinking everything in South Africa is a failure.
@deanwingrin@rubinrory@PrevaniK That’s what I’ve been thinking, since the grounding in 2021, 2 squadron has been operating as a token force at best. I don’t think we’ve had more than 4 Gripens serviceable at one time, I hate to be pessimistic, if things don’t improve we may have to say good bye to our Gripens.
@deanwingrin@rubinrory@PrevaniK A short time being around 3-4 months correct? To your knowledge has there been any discussions regarding a contract renewal or does it seem like last time where they aren’t taking it seriously?
@darren_olivier one of our Gripens appeared on flight radar (I’ve only ever seen 3925 on flight radars), seemingly supersonic, something to do with the support contract ending? Has any progress been made on finalising the next support contract?
@TauLVIII @The_MerchantSA There isn’t really an equivalent I can think of in other countries to the STF. Other than the French GIGN. SWAT isn’t compatible to STF, our guys are probably amongst the best in the world
@darren_olivier the post from defenceweb talking about the A-Darter deliveries, there are a lot of comment about “what is will SAAF carry the weapons on” I wanted to know what the truth to this is. I was under the impression 3-4 Gripens were operational currently.
@darren_olivier Article mentions the support contract for the Gripens expiring in August, but a new contract has been agreed upon. Does this mean the agreed upon contract will be signed at the end of August or are we going to be without Gripens again?
@darren_olivier@deadsnake_w Have any A-Darter missiles been delivered to SAAF as of yet? The first operational missiles were supposed to be delivered by April of this year, but I haven’t seen anything as of yet.
